Swim
Comments: Water was comfortable... I started out at a conservative pace, and actually started to pass people in my wave, which made me feel good. Unfortunately a little over halfway through my goggles started leaking, which I was worried might happen. It took me several tries of stopping and treading water before I got them back on right. Swim seem long at the time, but in hindsight, it was quite enjoyable. What would you do differently?: Need to keep trying different goggles to find the right one for me. Transition 1
Comments: Nice beach run to T1. Wetsuit strippers were helpful and saved me the hassle of trying to get it off on my own. Took my time and made sure I had everything right before heading out. Bike
Comments: Shortly in to the bike I knew this was going to be hard. I was pushing it hard, but people were flying by me. Felt uncomfortable and sluggish. I wasn't able to stay in my aero position for very long at a time and hammer on it. I didn't know how I was going to make it. 18 miles in I stopped to check my tire pressure cause I thought something had to be making this harder than usual. I was right, my rear tire had a slight rub. I was so mad at myself. I fixed it and the next 19 was easier. I was able to raise my average from 16.2 to 16.7. The last 17 miles hurt. I started cramping pretty good and my legs were shot. I was a wreck of emotions with a couple miles left. Happy that I made it, but overwhelmed that I still had the run to go. I was only able to take 1 Gel pack. I know I needed more but I had taken so much fluids in (grabbing a full bottle at every station) and I knew if I were to take some I was going to get sick. What would you do differently?: I should have just left my trainer skewer on and not but my light weight one on. My rear tire has so little play, I knew there was a high probability something would go wrong. Transition 2
Comments: Was lucky enough to have my area right next to the fence, so I could talk to my father during T2. Told him I was cramping up badly and got comfort when he said a lot of people were in the same boat. People were passing me too fast on the bike for me to notice if they were in pain ;) .... I apologized to my support crew in advance for the slow run. Run
Comments: I hadn't been able to get any running workouts in in the past month because my right knee has been causing me a lot of issues. I wasn't going to let that stop me from competing in the race, so my goal was to run as much as I could. And when I had to walk, to walk briskly. I was able to run a good portion of the first lap. The people with hoses felt amazing. One guy projectile vomited right next to me in the zoo because he had drank too much liquid. I felt bad but it was a little entertaining. The 2nd lap I was a wreck. I couldn't run no matter how badly I wanted to. My knee was toast, legs were cramping and I was exhausted. It took everything I had to run the last 100m. I wanted to finish running, not walking. What would you do differently?: There really wasn't anything I could do but leave it in God's hands since my ITB has been acting up BADLY all season. Did everything I could think of to fix it in the 3 months leading up to the race. I have to let it heal and it hard next year! Post race
Warm down: Warm cool-down consisted of me getting my medal, walking to the grass, and promptly falling down in exhaustion. What limited your ability to perform faster: IT Band injury Event comments: Awesome job by all of the volunteers and law enforcement! Last updated: 2011-07-20 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:15. Didn't really have a set plan, just wanted to make it to the race site early enough so I wasn't crunched for time. Got to transition at about 5:45 after the 40 minute drive. Started setting everything up and noticed my rear tire was really low on air. Forgot my air pump at the vehicle, so I stood in line and waited for the bike techs to pump it up. Tried staying relaxed.
Couldn't get a bike warmup in since it couldn't leave transition. Didn't want to run because I was trying to save my knee for the race. I did a decent stretch and tried to eat a banana. I was too nervous to eat, it kept trying to come up. I was able to get about half of it down. Walked to the start with my support crew... nice little walk to clear the mind.
