Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:40 and had oatmeal, half a bagel w/ peanut butter, and green tea. On the road by 5:10. Got checked in, body marked, and racked by 6:30. Took an energy gel about 30 minutes prior to race start.
Swim
  • 09m 18s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went out hard the first 200 yards then settled in. I usually sight very poorly in this lake. It always seems muddy. However, I felt like I sighted well this time. Did not get off course. I was more aggressive in the swim for this race. Was happy with my performance.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. My speed continues to improve with each race. Keep up the workouts.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Happy with T1. I ran from swim exit to bike, then ran with bike to bike exit. I think this is the first time I was able to run thru T1. Felt good.
Bike
  • 38m 33s
  • 14 miles
  • 21.79 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the best bike leg of a race I've ever had. My legs felt heavy during the first 2 miles, then loosened up. I started working with a coach in June and the results on the bike leg finally showed up at this race. A ton of people usually pass me during the bike leg. I was passed by only four people yesterday. I usually finish near the bottom of my AG on the bike. This race I finished in the top 1/3 of my AG. I know I can still improve a lot on the bike, however, I was very happy with my time yesterday.
What would you do differently?:

Keep hammering the bike workouts to get faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

Was able to run all the way to rack with the bike. Again, don't think I've ever done this before. Happy with T2.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 22m 26s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great on the run yesterday. Found my legs right away. There is a downhill near the end of the race. I love this downhill as I usually pick up a lot of speed for the remainder of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Keep up with the brick workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, drank water, ate some pizza, etc

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. The weather was great, I did not feel overheated at all during the race. Very happy with this race.

Event comments:

I've done this race three times and the Oly race they have in May one time. They always do a good job. Lot's of post race drinks and food. Lot's of volunteers too.
