Pre-race routine:

Alarm was set for 4:30, but I didn't have much faith in it. I woke up several times throughout the night and happened to wake up just before the 4:30 bell. Got up, drank some Muscle Milk, and ate a banana. Took care of somoe pre-race business and then suited up. Grabbed a bottle of water and a gatorade and headed out the door to meet my buddy at 5:30. We met near the Disneyland hotel and headed over to Corral A.
Event warmup:

Worked our way up through the corral. I really had to pee again, but I wan't going to leave and not get back. Did some light stretching (not much) but just chatted with Jim as the pre-race festivities started.

Comments:

First mile was slow due to congestion (8:06), but started to open up through the park. Next 5 miles were at or just below goal pace (7:37, 7:31, 7:30, 7:30, 7:34). Fell into a bad rhythm over the next few miles and got off pace. I was running with those around me, but I was not watching my pace and I must've slowly slipped off (7:44, 7:37, 7:45, 7:47). Realized I was slightly behind goal pace, I tried to pick it up a little, but wanted to save some for a strong finish. Mile 11 was 7:37 and then got back to 7:30. Hit 7:25 for mile 13 and my finishing pace was 7:15. Great to be accelerating down the stretch, but I saw the clock as I neared the finish and knew I missed my goal. My PR is 1:40:46 and my goal was to go sub 1:40. I had a good hard race, but missed my goal. My garmin read 13.24miles - - I don't expect it to be spot on, but this seemed a little longer than it should have been. With that in mind, maybe a 'unofficially' PR'd. Too bad it's the official time that counts. Again, I ran a good, hard race and I'm very happy with my performance.
What would you do differently?:

1) Not hurt my hamstring 1 1/2 weeks before the race so that I can effectively taper versus easy running and rest leading up to the race
2) Get a better lane in the first mile
3) MOST IMPORTANTLY - I really need to focus on miles 7 thru 10. This is wear I feel that I tend to "sit back and get ready". Just listen to your body and run Stupid!
Post race
Warm down:

Waited around for my buddy Jim (just under 2 hrs) and we walked and talked through the food/water line.
Should've gone to the massage tents

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slight injury a week and a half out, crowded first mile, and a mental lapse.

Event comments:

My 5th year running (out of 6 years). Awesome race and I'll be back.
