Swim
Comments: This was my best swim yet time wise, but I STILL cannot seem to get into a rhythm until about half way through. I know part of it is due to congestion at the start, people swimming over me etc., but for some reason I can't get my breathing under control. After the half way point, something "clicks" and I feel great, could keep swimming all day! What would you do differently?: Maybe take my time at the start until I get warmed up and settled into a good pace before cranking it up! Transition 1
Comments: not a bad transition, managed to find my bike right away and got my wetsuit off in a reasonable amount of time. One thing I have started doing is taking off my timing chip so it doesn't get stuck while trying to remove my wetsuit, just have to make sure I don't forget to put it back on! What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Managed to put down a pretty good time since my legs were still tired from riding the Ironman Muskoka 70.3 course a few days earlier. I really felt it on the big climb up the escarpment but I was able to pick the pace up quite a bit over the rest of the course. I did pass quite a few people who were walking up the hill, even one guy who just fell over on his bike right in front of me! I got passed by a few of the others in my AG but I wasn't too worried because I knew I could catch up and pass them on the run. What would you do differently?: Not much, I was pretty happy with my ride. The only thing I could do is rest up more before the race, but since this was not an A race, I wasn't too concerned about time. Transition 2
Run
Comments: pretty solid run for me with my tired legs. It was actually a little slower than I have been running this year, but still managed to pull off one of the best runs of the day. This has been my strongest (and favorite) leg of the race for the last couple seasons, always seem to pass all the people that pass me on the bike! What would you do differently?: not much really, could have pushed a little harder but I don't want to risk injury a month out from the Muskoka Half. Post race
Warm down: some light stretching, water, gatorade and food. What limited your ability to perform faster: racing on a 3/4 full tank due to a hard training week for 70.3 prep. Event comments: Another great race by the usual crew on the Subaru series, everything went smoothly and was well organised. Last updated: 2011-07-27 12:00 AM
