Pre-race routine:

Headed to race site around 4:30, almost there, realized I left wetsuit in the car, so headed back to hotel to pick it up. Got to hotel and picked up wetsuit, then shortly after remembered that I didn't have my regular transition bag with my goggles, but luckily I keep goggles in my car, so didn't have to make another trip to the hotel to get them. Got there, got transition set up, then realized garmin was not on my wrist, made trek to car to get garmin. Met up with my teammates, and got a quick couple of group pics, I was 1 of 2 on my team doing the aquabike, the rest were doing barb's race. Got my feet wet, then it was time to head in to the start corral.

Comments:

Swam felt good, different to be swimming in fresh water, I'm used to ocean swims. Like everyone says, it was shallow in points, just adjusted my stroke to keep swimming and not hit the rough rocks on the bottom. Got to a point and saw a bunch of guys (wave in front of me was men's aquabike) standing up, so I thought I was close to the turn around, but such was not the case, as there were still about 2 more buoys to go. Had to weave around a few of the guys, and kept running into several people in my own wave, tried to stay focused on my own swim. It was nice to be able to breathe to both sides the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

not attempt to walk at any point.

Wetsuit strippers ROCK!!! I decided to take my time on this transition, would have been a few minutes slower if not for the wetsuit strippers, first time experience for me, and it was off quicker than I could ever get it off. Intentionally took my time in transition to get arm warmers on and make sure I had everything and handed off my bag to my coach. Wanted to mentally prepare for my longest ever ride.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a small towel and transition mat, area was very rocky.

Man that was a long bike ride, aid stations were great, especially at mile 29, peanut butter and jelly sandwich hit the spot, as I hadn't eaten much (food I had not appetizing texturally, even though it worked in training). Lived off Gatorade mostly, a bit of water too. Walked up hill to mount, and walked up Chalk Hill, not used to hills and may not have had the gearing very good, didn't want to risk falling while trying to unclip part way up.
I was happy not to crash, as I heard post race that a couple of my teammates had crashed during the race (one DNFd, the other kept on going).
What would you do differently?:

Work on hills more, try to work on gearing on hills so I can make it up them easier.

Warm down:

Walked around to try to find coach to get my swim bag and keys to go back to car, ate at food tent, though I didn't feel like eating, once I started eating I was okay.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stopping at every aid station, but this may have helped. Having never done this distance before it's definitely a learning experience.

Event comments:

I survived my longest race to date, good preparation for Oceanside in March!!
Packet pickup was a bear for those of us who arrived early, even worse for aquabike as we had to weave through all the full and barbs race people who were in the meetings the hour before us to get to the area in the gym where our packets were, I suggest to switch the sides of barbs and aquabike so the aquabike is closer to the start door.
