Pre-race routine:

Snickers but nothing else really all that special. No warmup.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 11m 35s
  • 711 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Choppy at first but once I eased into a good pace I didn't really notice. No problem with water temp or navigation. As usual, a lot of folks in my age group start at the front and go off way too fast. I passed most of them and some in earlier waves before I was done. Some seaweed towards the end, easy to get a little tangled but not dangerous. Overall a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not enough training, but still happy with my time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

Not sure what happened here but took way too long for a sprint transition. The run from swim-exit to T1 is long but not long enough for this kind of time. It cost me the Clydesdale win.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention and have a little more urgency in my transitions.
Bike
  • 41m 41s
  • 14.1 miles
  • 20.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Challenging course on some up and down rollers. Had to come out of the saddle several times. Good average pace. No technical problems and my effort was well measured, leaving plenty for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, just need to work on getting stronger and faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Simply transition but still took too much time. Need to find a way to practice this.
Run
  • 21m 15s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Strong run, passed more people than passed me. Turned in a good time. No problems. Comfortable effort. Strong finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Water dumped over head. Banana, good food at the end. Loved the shrimp and grits. Finished 2nd in Clydesdale category, would've been 11 in age group.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just train more, get stronger and faster.

Event comments:

Fun race and well organized with awesome food. Bike leg is the most challenging.
