Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:50. I had packed my bag and put my bike on my bike rack the night before. Showered and drank some coffee. Got to the race site at 6:15. Set up my transition area and went in to watch the swim.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 15m 43s
  • 500 meters
  • 03m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had to breast stroke most of the swim. This was the worst swim performance I have ever done.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 1
  • 04m 19s
Comments:

With a poor swim performance, I gave myself a little extra time in the transition area to get my composure together. At the mount line, I had a little trouble getting clipped into my pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, my transition performance was beneficial.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 26s
  • 21 miles
  • 15.10 mile/hr
Comments:

It rained on me for the first 15 minutes of the bike. Once it quit raining and the sun came out, I was luckily in the river bottoms shaded by trees, so I didn't immediately have the sun/humidity post-rain.

I didn't realize that there was a tail wind on the way out. I realized it at the turn around point.

Last year, there was a dog loose on Silvers Road. He never left the road, but stood at the edge of his yard and "warned" riders not to come too close. I guess people complained because this year...no pooch!

Overall, I am very pleased with my bike performance.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Transition 2
  • 04m 12s
Comments:

My calf cramped a little right off of the bike. I took a little time to stretch the muscle before the run. Even though I drank a lot on the course, my mouth was very dry. I took a couple big swigs of Gatorade, and two cups from the first water station set up at the beginning of the run course.
What would you do differently?:

Bricks.
Run
  • 59m 32s
  • 5 miles
  • 11m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I had to walk most of the run. I had developed some raw blisters on the ball of my foot during the bike. I think this was due to wet socks. Every step I took (both running and walking) hurt. My legs just would not work with me.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training

Event comments:

I love this race and the course. Rumor has it that St. Peters is building a man-made lake. Hopefully next year the swim will be OWS.
