Pre-race routine:

Stayed with a friend. Drove the bike course, did a small run day before. My back has been bad lately, and I've been a regular at my chiropractor's all week. I was nervous about how it would hold up running.
Event warmup:

Light calisthenics, stretching, rode bike to transition from parking lot.
Run
  • 15m 49s
  • 1.5 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

This was supposed to be a 600 yd swim but runoff resulted in poor water quality that closed the state park swim area. Race organizers changed it to a duathlon.
What can I say? I'm not a runner and my runs stink.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This run was actually good for me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Transition was a big mud pit. Ran out of transition carrying my bike. Got to pavement and did some stomping to try to clear the mud from my cleats.
Bike
  • 41m 36s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike is my home. I rocked it, and I actually took it a bit conservatively because (1) roads were wet, and (2) I was on new wheels with new rubber, and I'd never ridden the wheels in a race before, so I was unsure how they'd handle the stress.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe ride a bit more aggressively. But I did top all women in the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

As with my very first du (Hagerstown in April), I had some issues with my orthotics sliding around in my sneakers so it took some time to get them to sit still and be placed correctly under my foot. Also, as with Northeast, the mud sucked a sneaker off my (left) foot.
Run
  • 32m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Another PR for a race 5K. But I think the course was a bit short. Also, my back started to hurt, as did the inside of my left knee. That was a new one. I'll have to keep an eye on that.
What would you do differently?:

Not walk.
Post race
Event comments:

They were a little late getting awards out and it was cold and folks were getting antsy to go home.
