Swim
Comments: I was excited to swim!! the waves dont bother me usually, looked like it was going to be fun actually. WASNT!! Sited on the first buoy and had to swim right into the waves. Not too bad accept that everyone was slow and people were already signaling for help from guards on boards. One board had 4 people hanging off of it!! After seeing that, it kinda makes one wonder WTF am I doing out here!! Now across the waves which wasnt too bad accept that the waves blew me off course and sighting was hard. Ended up doing a lot of sidestroking to control breathing. Everyone was so bunched up due to short course that rounding the buoys was a scramble. Last leg in wasnt too bad but still couldnt find a rythm so just did what i could to get in. What would you do differently?: First group swim of the year is always rough for me. no stellar expectations. didnt wear my watch as i didnt realy want to see the times, this actually ended up being the best decision for the whole race. I just s/b/r what I felt I had energy for, Transition 1
Comments: didnt do a split for t-1. actually was ok i think. I brought a 5 gallon bucket to sit on and it worked great. wetsuit came of ok for first time of the year. no hangups. Bike
Comments: bike leg takes in t-1 time, actually think i was in the 20 mph range. felt great for the day. Had to be careful on corners. Transition 2
Comments: t-2 was smooth for first tri of season. not yet into the slick transition stuff yet. since i was wearing my one peice suit there were no 'wardrobe malfunctions' Run
Comments: since i didnt totally hammer the bike, I think my legs were in a little better shape than last months duathlon. No crazy legs noticed. Just found a steady pace and worked out the 'negative' thoughts devils. Really didnt think I ran at this pace which I guess is good in the overall look. Thought I was much slower. Post race
Warm down: grabbed my stuff and got going. rain was beginning to come down. really would have loved to stay and cheer folks in but my friend had been waiting in the rain for the race so it was time to go. What limited your ability to perform faster: wet road conditions, waves and general sea state Event comments: Time out productions does great races, too bad they only do a few. grabbed some oatmeal and cran juice. packed up car. got to site with plenty of time, no stress.
no real warm up per se. met up with ellen, max, pjostack, donna and a couple buds from track club. racked up and set up. took a quick dip in the ocean to get some water in suit to warm up.
Ocean was VERY wavy!! little coolish.
