Swim
Comments: The swim is still my weak spot by far. I am working with a coach and seeing some little improvements but still have a long ways to go. My first 200 yards or so felt good but by the time I got to the first buoy my goggles were fogged and I couldn't see a thing. I have swam in fogged up goggles before and it makes for a bad race so I chose to stop and un-fog them about every 5 minutes or so. I also got this strong urge to pee for about the last 10 minutes of the swim. I tried for quite a while even slowing way down but just couldn't get it out. Despite all of this my swim was still 45 seconds faster then my last swim there. I know that the coaching is helping because with all of my stops I had to have been moving quicker when I was actually moving. What would you do differently?: Lots and lots more pool time as well as more time with the coach. I also need to make sure I use a better anti-fog because the stuff I used this time sucked. Transition 1
Comments: Overall a pretty good transition. These are super long transition zones and it sucks running in your bike shoes for that long. What would you do differently?: Learn to mount and dismount my bike with my shoes clipped in. Bike
Comments: first I want to say that I think this course is actually a little short. My GPS shows it at 23.3 miles both times that I have rode it. I actually biked 22.1 MPH average not the 23.5 that it shows. I did have a great bike though. I felt strong the whole way and was able to keep in aero through out the whole course. Had a couple of small cramps in my inner thighs but brief standing on my pedals and shifting position on the seat helped. What would you do differently?: Nothing really felt good for where I am at in my training and experience. Transition 2
Comments: Non eventful again just a really long transition zone. What would you do differently?: nothing really. Run
Comments: Had a nice strong run. Was able to settle into a sub 7 minute pace and then just work through the pain and keep it up. Was very happy with my performance. I had a little bit of foot cramping and numbness. I believe it was due to the elastic laces I have being too tight. What would you do differently?: Start my kick about a half mile sooner or so. Post race
Warm down: Ate some food and walked around a little. Came back to the house after the awards and took an ice bath and put my compression tights on. What limited your ability to perform faster: My swim for sure. If I could get my swim time down 20 seconds or so per 00 I would finish much much better overall. I was very happy overall with this race though. Event comments: Had a good time. This is a typical AA sports race but had a good time. I actually got a 2nd place medal instead of first because the winner in my age group was the overall winner. so that bumped me from 3rd to 2nd. Last updated: 2011-07-31 12:00 AM

Got a fairly good nights sleep woke up about 5:30. Took a shower to relax and ate a banana an ensure and a bagel for breakfast. Packed the car and drove to the race. Got there about 2 hours early which always makes me feel better. Setup my transition area and then walked the transitions just to see how it looked. This is my second time on this same course for the year so I knew the layout pretty well.
Got on my wetsuit about 30 minutes prior to my start time and then got in the water for about ten minutes just to feel it out and swim a little. I noticed at this time that I was having a little bit of fogging problems but had no spray with me so tried spit.
