Swim
Comments: The swim went great, and I was really keeping a fast pace without getting too tired. The last 50, I ran up on a slower swimmer and couldn't pass until the we came up on the finish. This slowed me down quite a bit...probably lost 10-15 seconds. What would you do differently?: Tell everyone to be accurate with their swim entries!!! Transition 1
Comments: This transition felt good, but I know I can get it down to under a minute. What would you do differently?: I need to practice the transitions a bit more. This one was very smooth though. Bike
Comments: I was really blown away that I was able to keep the pace I did. On a rolling course, I averaged almost 20mph! Doing that on flat, not impressive, but on that course, I'm happy. What would you do differently?: The hill repeat training really paid off. I was able to attack the rises a bit more intensely and was able to recover after them quicker. I just need to keep challenging myself during my training rides. Transition 2
Comments: I dropped my 'freshly-purchased' riding glasses, and wasn't about to let them get crushed. So I took an extra 10 secs picking them up. Felt that this transition went pretty smooth, but after looking at the time, probably could've done quicker. What would you do differently?: Again, I need to practice the transitions to be able to do it in under/around 1:00 Run
Comments: Immediately had trouble getting my legs back, but was able to get decent tempo going. For this course, I'm happy with 8:36/mile pace! I finished pretty strong, but still didn't have a higher gear during the run. That's about all I had. What would you do differently?: It will be interesting to see what happens to my run times as I continue the training regimen I've been on. This was the fastest run leg of a triathlon I've ever done, and I expect it to keep getting better. Also, the knee felt totally fine throughout...that's a good thing. Post race
Warm down: Walked for about 10 minutes, back to the transition area. Then did about 15 minutes of good stretching while chatting with the other athletes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Back to the same old answer...training. Each part of this tri was my personal best, so it's hard to think I could've done much better. For being in this sport for a year now, I'd have to say that I'm very pleased with the progress. Riverwood was my first 'repeat tri' and to take 14 minutes off last year, is just feeling so good right now. Event comments: The course was challenging, but not too tough to really bear down and push through. Very well organized! However, somehow they have to be able to penalize swimmers that enter a swim time that is nowhere close to what they can do. It really effects the other athletes and makes it tougher on everyone swimming after them. If you're reading this...please be conscious of this and enter an accurate swim time in these pool-swim triathlons. I love this event, and will be back next year. Last updated: 2006-04-21 12:00 AM

Got there very early! I felt great. No one else had even shown up. Took my time checking in. Set up my transition, then started warming up.
I'll look to do this everytime.
Swim - 700 yds. Did the 300 yd course twice, plus a few lengths
Bike - Just rode about 1 mile to loosen up the legs and get a feel for my new bike set-up.
Run - Light running, maybe 1/2 mile.
Then tried to relax before my swim.
