Swim
Comments: I'm pissed because had I been at the start on time I would have probably gained 30 seconds on my swim and not had to weave through my entire wave. What would you do differently?: Be ready and not space out during the pre-race meeting when I should have been putting my wetsuit on. Transition 1
Comments: I felt that I was faster then my time, body glide helped with wetsuit removal and I remained standing the whole time. What would you do differently?: Not much, just run faster out of the water and to the bike start. Bike
Comments: I wanted to be faster, in at 30 minutes to stick with my race plan, but that didn't happen. Hills just kill me and I need to ride more. Simple as that. Transition 2
Comments: Getting better at these transitions. I think if I tried to get my feet out of my shoes I'd lose more time in that process than I'd gain during the transition right now. Run
Comments: Again, a little slower than I would have liked according to my race plan. What would you do differently?: I wish I had a better method of timing during the race, it might help me pick it up a notch and meet my goals. Post race
Warm down: Just walked around, gathered my stuff, got my times and went to the coffee shop. What limited your ability to perform faster: Very poor pre-race routine. Event comments: Good race, close to home. I will do it again next year. Last updated: 2011-08-02 12:00 AM

I don't think I could possibly make up a worse pre-race routine. We arrived later than I'd like, but well before the pre-race meeting or transition cut-off. I got into an argument with another racer and his dad about him taking up 3 people's worth of space at his transition stall since it was the only place left for me to rack my bike. I think the argument ended with me telling him, "Chill the fuck out, this is supposed to be fun local event not the fucking national qualifiers." The pre-race meeting ended, and they were off to the start where I was in the first wave and didn't even have my wetsuit on yet or any gu's on board. I scrambled to get my wetsuit on, couldn't zip up the back all the way, then sprinted the 400 yards down the shore to the start where my wave was already in the water. I watched the racers start as I was still running to get into the water. They had given me the wrong color swim cap but told me the wave I was supposed to be in (they ran out of my color at the check-in), so I took off while all the other competitors were screaming at me that I was cheating and was in the wrong wave. Apparently they announced after I left that I was in the correct wave and everyone should calm down.
My warm-up was the sprint to the swim start.
