Pre-race routine:

Ha! "Routine", yeah right.

Got up, ate a banana and 20oz. of water and hit the road.
Event warmup:

Nothing really, got in the water to try out the temperature and get my goggles set up. This was my first tri swim without a wetsuit so I had a small bit of concern about it.

Swim
  • 18m 44s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 30s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Man, I really have to get a better sense of urgency during Transition. Anyway, I was just fumbling around and did my own thing.
What would you do differently?:

I think setting up my T-1 beforehand could be done better.
Bike
  • 41m 2s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.18 mile/hr
Comments:

So I forgot my bike computer so there wasn't anything to gauge my pace and distance other than "feel". It was fine since we only had 12.8 miles to go anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Bring bike computer with because that will make me faster!
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
What would you do differently?:

I have a new pace calculator with my Nike+ that I'm using now. That and I like to wear my race number belt during the bike adds a few seconds and snapping the wristband on the Nike+ is a bit difficult to execute with the high energy of a Transition.
Run
  • 27m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the first mile at about 7:20/mile which was the goal, but my pace really fell off as I had hydrated way too much I think. I backed off thinking I would have to take a walk break but as I ran the last 400 meters it turns out I had a greater tolerance for pushing the pace and maintaing. Oh well, just have to train.
What would you do differently?:

I'm really disappointed in my 12th place in AG for the run. I know why (because I haven't trained at all), but it still makes me feel bad seeing it on the screen.
Post race
Warm down:

1 banana, 1/2 an orange, 12oz. water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

Great job for an innaugural race. It was a lot of fun to get out there through the Oswego countryside. A lot of fast parts (potentially, if you are trained even in the least). There appeared to be quite a high percentage of locals and young people in the race so that was really cool to see so much local support and involvement even to the point of participation. A couple of intersections were not mashalled but hey, there's only so much police and volunteer staff to go around. I have nothing bad to day about this race and it sparked my interest in Sprint distance racing. Way to go Oswego!

Apart from the first 200 meters, which were fast, I settled into an easy pace. I guess that I still haven't done enough training to maintain an high effort, plus not enough competing this year to gauge what my effort should be.
