Swim
Comments: Disappointed since I've been swimming this distance in 2:05/100 yards in the gym pool. Got caught behind a breast stroking guy, and was proably too cautious with trying to figure out the best time to pass (didn't want a head-on). But not sure that held me enough to account for it. Blood sugar was dropping precipitously prior to the swim, so I ate 3 glucose tabs. This would normally take me up 60 points putting me back up to 150, but as with all things race day, norms don't count. Wound up high as a kite again on the bike after being disconnected during swim and wait for swim. What would you do differently?: Be more decisive in passing, and swim needs work overall. Transition 1
Comments: Took extra time to dry off a little, put on jacket, decide whether to wear gloves, etc. Got pump back on and hit the buttons to find lost sensor. No time to wait for the data to come over so went on my way. Did not test for the first time ever, yay!! Saw Marcy again as we both struggled with dressing ourselves :). What would you do differently?: Practice transitions....think I have some time to gain on them. Bike
Comments: Had a hard time clipping my first foot in for some reason, which is not the norm. I started my garmin a little after that. Kind of weird that garmin says I averaged 17.0 mph over 12.57 miles, and official time says 16.1 mph over 12.0 miles. Know the clipping in issue cost some, but wouldn't think it was that much. Anway, it is what it is, and I'm pretty happy with my bike. Once my CGM started sending data again, I was getting high BG alarms, but didn't reach to check it out until a couple miles in. Just shut down the alarms and rode on. Determined that I would need to stick with water only. What would you do differently?: Not be a goofus clipping that first foot in. Transition 2
Comments: Again, I am none too speedy in trasitions. Did slow down to get a good drink and take one more peek at BG trend on my CGM (still high). What would you do differently?: Maybe find someone to light a fire under me in transitions? Run
Comments: Pretty happy with the run...felt decent all the way through so maybe could have gone a little harder. Saw Marcy along the way and got to slap her hand and cheer each other on....fun :). My timing chip fell off once. Nice gal behind me picked it up and handed it to me. Stopped at water stop to reattach it....not well enough...because it started to come off again,so had to repeat that maneuver. What would you do differently?: Check to make sure the timing chip is securly attached to the ankle strap. Go harder in mile 3. Post race
Warm down: Chatted with a few other BTers and friends from bike shop rides and lake swims. Met up with Marcy and her family, and enjoyed meeting a couple of other BT gals. Becky and I got a cup of coffee, and grabbed some chicken and oranges. What limited your ability to perform faster: Think I have a lot of room for improvement in all aspects. But for where I am fitness wise today, I'd say speeding up transitions and being a bit more aggressive passing in the pool would have helped me the most. Event comments: After my first full season of doing triathlons, I can say without a doubt that I like the events put on by Dallas Athlets the best. I LOVE how they keep it fun all the way through, welcome newcomers, and take great care of everyone racing at the same time. I talked to Tom (I think that's who it was...he was dressed as Princess Leia) in transition about a medical issue. You would have never known how busy he probably was by the way he handled it. This was also my very first tri a couple years ago, and it's in part due to the people who run this race that I'm still coming back for more. Last updated: 2011-08-05 12:00 AM

Up at 4:45, normal bkfst, and off to the races. Met a gal in line who was doing her first tri and she had misplaced her googles. Very last minute, I had thrown an extra pair in my bag, and gave them to her. Nice to be able to pay it forward. Met up with Becky and Marcy, and had fun chatting away while we waited to swim.
Swam a little to get warm. Pool was the warmest place to be. Wished I hadn't though...coldest I was all day was waiting for my turn to swim.
