Swim
Comments: Not a bad swim. My effort was pretty good, but my goggles fogged up and I struggled with navigation. After the last buoy, I couldn't see the finish at all and got pretty far off course. I also ran into quite a few people who were treading water from the previous waves, so it was difficult to really find a groove. What would you do differently?: Remember to "fog-proof" my goggles. Find someone to draft off. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty bad transition. I chose not to have my shoes clipped in already due to the expected congestion, but this definitely slowed me down a bit. What would you do differently?: Practice flying mounts. Bike
Comments: I pushed fairly hard on the bike, knowing that my run fitness wasn't great and that I needed to make up time on the bike. The course wasn't overly crowded, but there were a lot of people who don't understand the concept of staying to the right hand side of the lane. I kept the pressure on all the way through and overall executed very well despite a lower than expected power output. What would you do differently?: Dig deeper. Transition 2
Comments: The finish came up on me sooner than I expected and I hadn't gotten out of my shoes yet. I chose just to run with them, which probably cost me a few seconds. Overall not a bad transition though. Run
Comments: I was hurting on the run, but I just kept moving. Pace was slow, but I didn't know where I was relative to the field, so I tried to push. This felt a lot longer than it was, probably because in my mind I went into it expecting it to be like a 5k. What would you do differently?: Need to keep doing some interval runs and overall spending more time out running. Post race
Warm down: Ice bath and then a light jog to go find Analise and cheer her on. What limited your ability to perform faster: Execution was okay, but my biggest limiter was run fitness. I finished 4s behind 2nd place, and I know I had more than that left in my body, so I'm disappointed for not digging deeper. I could easily have cut 10-15s out of transitions. Event comments: Very good race and well organized. Great for beginners. My only complaint is that the timing was completely screwed up and I believe some of the placings here affected. Of course this is Houston, so I'm used to it, but eventually someone is going to figure out how to do timing properly. Last updated: 2011-08-08 12:00 AM

Out of bed at 4am for a banana and oatmeal. Sipped on some gatorade and got on the road about 4:30, arriving at bridgeland a little after 5. Got set up, hit the bathroom 4x and socialized a bit.
I fit in about a 1mi run with some pickups and then walked down to the swim start. I only swam about 200 yards, but I made it fairly hard.
