Pre-race routine:

Got there at 5 AM when transition opened to claim a space on the rack. Racks are organized by wave and are not assigned. First come first serve.
Event warmup:

Quick run down the streets and back. No one was allowed in the water early.

Comments:

Great swim course. Brought my wetsuit only to find out the water temp was too warm. Should have checked first.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

This is, without a doubt, the WORST transition staging area I have ever experienced. Since the racks are not assigned, I came back from the swim to find my bike AND transition gear moved. I had about three backpacks filled with relay-ers gear under my wheels and one person had even put there gear bag ONTOP of my shoes. There's no control in the transition area. It never closes, not even during the race, so you have to weave around people just standing there to get out. Plus the transition area is not a thru and thru, so you enter and exit at the same point. If you are put in one of the last racks, like I am, your transition time basically doubles because you have to run through the whole area twice each transition. Horrible.

Transition 2

Comments:

Transition got worse when I returned. My area was COVERED in race clothing, water bottles, etc. I literally had to just toss stuff off my gear to even get it. Aweful.

TRANSITION!

Event comments:

Based solely on the chaos of transition and the lack of clearing it out for the race, I wouldn't do this race again. Finding your gear is way too important. Thank goodness none of my stuff went missing. All this could easily be solved by assigning the racks. Also, I came back after the race to find my bike ON THE GROUND!!! Someone had removed it from the rack. I don't know why, nothing looked damaged so I know it didn't fall.

Really... the volunteers were fantastic and the course was decent for an urban race. It's such a shame that transition is just so uncontrollable. I was shocked that it transition never closed. Just... what a mess.

Course: 3 laps on the highway. Great volunteers. Well marked. Ride at the end of each loop is VERY bumpy. Some unmarked potholes to watch out for. It is an urban highway, so nothing unexpected.
