Pre-race routine:

You know you're in West Texas when the view out of your hotel window is an oil rig! And when you go out to eat dinner and the grilled veggies consist of canned french cut green beans, canned mushrooms and onions. Not knocking it, just different that's all, people are friendly as hell and the steaks are great!
Got up and had Sludge (granola/protein powder/milk) got to the venue, got body marked and set up transition.
Event warmup:

Biked about a mile and jogged for 5 min.
Swim
  • 06m 20s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was last, took a while to get the arms full of blood, I spent a lot on the bike. Happy with the swim, was in a part of the race field with no one else. Got passed quickly by one other competitor, and that was all the traffic I had to deal with.
What would you do differently?:

Will work on swims in the go around for next season with some sprint training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

T1 was Run to Bike, pretty good, changed shoes, grabbed helmet and took off.
Bike
  • 38m 15s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Coming from an area where you can't do a 5 mile ride without a categorized climb this was fun. We had a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back. I shifted 4 times, almost felt like a stationary bike. Passed quite a few people who beat me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, got passed by a Tri-Bike so I probably need one of those.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Bike to swim, almost forgot to take off socks!
Run
  • 26m 44s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

8:36 pace is a PR for me. Air and flat ground makes a difference. Ran with someone from TX for 1/2 the race and then kicked at the end. Good run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tri-Bike that puts me in a more wind cheating position?

Event comments:

This is a small town "homey" race. I did this race because I wrecked at another tri and did not finish. I needed 5 races to qualify for end of the year awards in the Southwest Challenge Series, which was my goal for the season. This got me there. The venue is small, no chip timing, have to keep track of your own splits but it was fun and the people and volunteers were very nice.
