Comments: Need to keep in mind this is a kayak, NOT A SWIM. Placing is also a little off on the overall rank. This portion had some "teams" working together in a kayak so my place is a little misleading What would you do differently?: This is only the 2nd time I've had my kayak in the water. Really felt it in my shoulder and back. Also gave my fast kayak to friend so he could do the race. Next time he gets the heavy sludge and I get the speedy kayak ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Only issues here was me trying to fix my watch, when I jumped into the Kayak I managed to hit it just right to pop off the band. gave up after 30s and just through it in the bike pouch. ![]() Bike
Comments: Somewhat difficult race due to having to borrow a bike> Mine was damaged the night before and could not be repaired for the race. Gave me a little problems since I did not have time to adjust for my style and the person I borrowed the bike from is about 6 inches short than me! For half the race I felt like my feet were going through the road. This also put a lot of stress on my thighs and I just could not generated the force I normally do. The last negative was the 10-15mph gusts that kept hitting me in the face. What would you do differently?: Use my own bikee, or at least make time to adjust the loaner bike. Still managed almost 18mph so not too bad. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: When I stepped off the bike, my legs gave out and I lended up on the ground. That was a new experience! Took a little extra time to gain my thoughts back before the run. Guess this means I pushed hard enough on the bike! ![]() Run
Comments: I think this is my best race to date for running! I set a goal of averaging 10m miles and actually averaged 9m miles. Only minor issues during the race. Around mile 1.5 started to get the cramp in my chest that killed my race in July. Started breathing a little deeper and the pain went away and never came back! May have found my way to get through this problem. I held pace so well that my times are almost equaly for the 1st 2 miles (18:02) and the 2nd 2 miles (18:00) What would you do differently?: Not Much, maybe see if I could squeze a little more out of the last mile! But that was probably pushing it. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked around trying to get feeling in my legs. Played with kids then ate a hamburger and drank coke while awards were handed out! What limited your ability to perform faster: Having to borrow a bike!!! Event comments: organized race, not much marking on bike course but of course there was the only 1 TA. Overall another well organized event by Speedy Feet group Last updated: 2011-08-10 12:00 AM

none: Stayed at campground, drank too many beers the night before and over slept. Woke up at 7am and race started 8am, packed all the gear into the truck and went to beach, registered. Located my loaner bike and it was time to start.
3/4 mile run from campsite back to the race area after dropping off the truck
