Total Time = 1h 10m 5s
Overall Rank = 44/800
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 10/43
Pre-race routine:

Got up early and ate some peanut butter toast and then headed to the race.
Event warmup:

No warm up, with the time trial start pool swim any warm up would be negated by standing around waiting to get in the pool.
Swim
  • 06m 2s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think I've swam once in the past two months, so I'm pretty happy with how the swim went. Felt pretty good and pushed it on the last 100m to get in front of a huge group headed towards the ladder.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more in training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

So slow! I did stop to throw on some socks mainly because I haven't practiced running without socks and I was scared of blisters. Also they changed the course to make sure you had to run all the way around transition so everyone covered the same distance carrying their bikes.
Bike
  • 36m 4s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I could have pushed the bike a little harder. The Garmin said I averaged 20.8mph and that's with running it around in transition. The race website says 20.0mph so something wasn't measured accurately at some point, and I doubt my Garmin is wrong...
What would you do differently?:

More miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Should have been under a minute with this but my hands were shaking and a bit numb from the cold on the bike.
Run
  • 24m 57s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't take any water on the course and felt fine. The only trouble I had was some stomach issues about a mile in (needed to hit a port-o-john) so I ended up walking for a good 100 yards or so to let that settle down and then couldn't really push the pace after that. I easily should have been under 24min for this as my legs felt great and my breathing/cardio wasn't stressed at all.
What would you do differently?:

Better pre-race diet. Time to start putting in the miles over the winter, need to get faster if I want to start moving up in the placings at these short races with guys running consistent sub 20's.
Post race
Warm down:

Hit the port-o-john and then had a powerade and a pancake and watched other people finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

See the run section (and lack of training duh).

Event comments:

Real fun end of season race and the first tri I ever competed in four years ago. Hopefully I'll make it back again next year.
