Swim
Comments: never been in the last wave before. lake was 82 so no wetsuits. got into about 3 waves in front of me before the end. It was a nice swim. When I hit the beach I glanced behind and saw a seething mass of green and yellow swim caps so I knew that I did pretty well in the AG. What would you do differently?: Not much. could have probably gone faster but I got out of the water with breathing in check and HR normal so it was a good warmup. PR for this course in the swim Transition 1
Comments: spent some extra time washing my feet to get all the sand off. I did not want to repeat the sand induced blister fest from last year. Bike
Comments: I went into the bike leg with the plan to set a PR. It had started raining during the swim and kept raining during the bike. Nothing really ground breaking other than I planned to work a little outside of my regular comfort zone. I would always hold up a bit just to "save some for the run". Anyway long story short - I biked hard and came away with a course and an overall PR What would you do differently?: do this a few years ago? Transition 2
Comments: didnt do a flying dismount because I didnt want to slip and I wasnt to sure of the braking situation with the rain Run
Comments: my plan was just to find a good sustainable pace. I am way down on run training this year so I really didnt have high aspirations for this leg like the swim and bike leg. So I bebop along for the first mile feeling steady and even and enjoying myself. Then a woman ran alongside me ( I later found out she was the overall female winner ). Our exchange went like this her : good pace me : thanks her : you did the first mile in 7:10 me : huh? her : 7:10. we are going 7:15 right now me: great. thanks her: beep beep beep beep beep her : we need to pick it up we are slowing down me : (no eye contact, ignore mode) her: good back to 7:15 her: beep beep beep beep her : lets pick it up and so on and so on for the next 2 miles. I dont run with a watch. I have a HR monitor. Or a Garmin. I run by feel. I find people like this woman very annoying. She was harshing my mellow. Eventually she pulled away out of earshot. I started running out of juice by then. My abbreviated rushed breakfast and lack of any on course calories kinda caught up with me. I just kinda cruised the last 2 miles. Of course two guys from my high school passed me at mile 5 and I didnt have anything to chase them with. Bummer. What would you do differently?: Maybe a gel or something on the bike or T2 or the run might have helped but it was still a course PR for me. Post race
Warm down: hahaha - I set a beer truck record for this course by having 3 in thirty minutes while waiting for my ride. What limited your ability to perform faster: this was a good race. only thing that might have made it better was actually getting up on time. Event comments: well lets see swim : course PR bike : course and personal PR run : course PR Overall : course and personal PR yeah buddy - it was a good race Last updated: 2011-08-14 12:00 AM

yell " Oh FU_K ! " as I look at the clock and it read 6:40 AM. Threw on my clothes, wolfed down some bananabread and an apple and my chauffeur dropped me off at 7:00 AM. Got my bike and transition set up, got marked, picked up timing chip and downloaded a fecal packet before they closed transition at 7:15 AM. Then waited until 8:00 AM for my wave to go off (we were last)
