Swim
Comments: I guess the rain cooled off the water, as few expected it to be wetsuit legal. I wore mine, and was 4 minutes faster than 2 weeks ago at Culpeper. First time in my life I had the fastest swim leg in my age group. What would you do differently?: Learn to breathe on both sides, so someone swimming next to me won't be splashing water in my face with every breath. Transition 1
Comments: Stripping the wetsuit took a few extra seconds, and I took time to wipe the grass off my feet before putting on socks. Bike
Comments: I may have pushed too hard on the bike, causing my run to suffer. So I was disappointed to see my bike leg was fourth in my AG; though only 1:45 between me and first. Transition 2
Comments: My T2 time was first in AG, but then my run suffered. Maybe I ran too fast through T2? Run
Comments: After having to walk at Culpeper Sprint 2 weeks ago, I really wanted to run the whole course. Going out was mostly downhill, so that went fine. But coming back after running the first 2-3 hills, I gave in and walked the steepest portions of the remaining hills. Felt bad about that. When I heard the crowd at the finish line, I told myself to run the rest, until I saw yet one more hill and walked. A guy patted me on the back and said "come on, show them what you've got!" That extra motivation got me back to running and I finished. Thank you, stranger. Even though I walked, my run leg was second in my AG. However, if I had run 1:01 faster, i would have won AG. But second isn't bad. What would you do differently?: Work on strength for running hills off the bike. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills. Event comments: Lucky weather, good organization, pretty course and venue, nice t-shirt. Skimpy food, lots of award categories, nice awards. Be ready for hills. Last updated: 2011-08-15 12:00 AM

Peanut butter on bread for breakfast. 2 hour drive to race site.
Quick swim warm-up. Really lucked out on the weather. Prediction was for rain and thunderstorms, but sky cleared for awhile, and rain held off. After my race was over, the sun came out. Lucky timing.
