Swim
Comments: Overall very happy with the swim. Did well with pacing. Last race was very bad, so I was happy with the huge improvement. What would you do differently?: for some reason, I kept drifting left. This improved in the second half of the course, as I mentally tried to push myself left. I don't think it was current related, as I seemed to be one of the only ones. There aren't a ton of buoys, but I still had a little trouble with sighting and steering. Transition 1
Comments: I laugh a little at the "jump on bike" question. I wiped out -- shoe wasn't clipped in to the pedal and I tried to make a pretty quick jump onto the bike. Cut up my hands, which ended up being ok for the remainder of the race, but the bike (with the exception of the bar tape) was fine. Pride - 1. What would you do differently?: Take the time to get on the bike properly, as I typically do. I should figure out how the pros get on to tri bikes quickly... the seat is too high for me to throw my leg over easily. Outside of the fall, I'd give the transition an "average"... especially since the fall technically occurred outside of the transition area. Bike
Comments: Although the distance over time calculation puts my average around 17.9 mph, my computer had me cranking between 18.8 - 21 mph for the great majority of the time. Given the turns and the transitions, 17.9 mph makes sense... but I was surprised how much effect the other parts had on overall speed (was a short course though). What would you do differently?: train on the bike more. I didn't have the legs to grind out a significantly higher speed. Transition 2
Comments: I admittedly don't do the riding to running with bike transition all that well. I came to a full stop and took the extra few seconds to prevent falling (again). What would you do differently?: nothing. I use regular road bike shoes, so I don't take my feet out early. Run
Comments: I reverse split the run. Legs definitely felt it at the beginning of the run and, admittedly, I haven't trained enough on the run recently. What would you do differently?: train for the run more. Post race
Warm down: Does a light stretch and jog to the bagel/water station count? What limited your ability to perform faster: training. I feel like I paced pretty well. My run pace, at best, would be in the low 8's even on fresh legs. I just need to run more. Event comments: Great end-of-the-season, fun race. It's a fast course, so it's fun to see how hard you're willing to push yourself. Last updated: 2011-08-17 12:00 AM

slept in a hotel about 20 miles away. Up and out the door at 5:15 for registration prior to 6:30. Was not a very hectic transition setup. Great pre-race vibe. One gel and a breakfast bar 1 1/2 hours before race time. One gel about 15 minutes prior to start.
About 200m swim. A few pushups and jogging around to get the heart rate up.
