Pre-race routine:

got to the venue at about 6:20 moved the gear to the transition area and then checked the race course.

The race was delayed about 20 minutes because of the heavy fog on the lake, no visibility so it wasn't safe.
Event warmup:

swam about 100 yds before the race wave start
Swim
  • 15m 8s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

long run to get back to transition through the sand. made for sandy feet.
What would you do differently?:

I need to continue to improve my speed, this is my 3rd race this year and the fastest pace.
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

had to use a water bottle to rinse sand off my feet (planned) because I use my running shoes on the bike and don't wear socks. I have cages on the pedals.
What would you do differently?:

felt good in transition. all went as planned.
Bike
  • 54m 49s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 15.76 mile/hr
Comments:

felt good on the bike. there was a long run to get to the mount area about 500yds.

signs were a little different to the Olympic turn around and the dismount area.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, the ride was a good one.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

I don't change shoes from the bike to run, really saves a lot of time. helmet off, baseball cap on.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 37m 57s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really tired at the start of the run for about 200yds. got into a good rythem and then I felt an abductor muscel in the groin getting tight. I tried slowing down to see if the pain would go away but it didnt' it just got worse. I ended up having to stop and walk a few paces 3 different times through the rest of the run. the second walk I tried to stretch out the abductor but it didn't help.

About 500 yds from the finish I stepped wrong and tweaked my bad knee. I wasn't sure I could finish, but I kept running as best as I could.

I made it across the finish line!!
What would you do differently?:

maybe more weights and lunges to work on my abductors.
Post race
Warm down:

I was in so much pain after crossing the finish I had to be helped over to the side where I applied ice to my knee and abductor. then I walked a little to cool down waiting on results and then awards ceremony since I placed 2nd in my age group

What limited your ability to perform faster:

pulled muscle. Everything else was as planned.

Event comments:

I would have like something with the actual place on the winners awards. Just got a logoed beer glass.
