Total Time = 1h 31m 15s
Overall Rank = 18/148
Age Group = 26-30
Age Group Rank = 2/9
Pre-race routine:

Usual breakfast @ 5.30am - 2 pieces of toast w/ peanut butter, 1 bannana, bottle water, bottle GU brew
Event warmup:

None - fully intended to have a warm up swim, and never did - not smart as this was my first Tri and first open water swim(i know not smart!!)
Swim
  • 24m 50s
  • 800 yards
  • 03m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

First Tri, first ever open water swim, first ever swim in a pack of people - i fully intended to practice this before the race, unfortunately my schedule did not allow!
What would you do differently?:

Practice OWS alot - i can comfortably swim a mile in the pool, and during the race when i actually had my head down stroking my technique was ok - just have to get used to 1)being used to swimming around/through people 2)being used to not being able to see anything under the water 3)learn to sight!! The one positive was that i never freaked out, and i didnt feel spent coming out of the water - the legs actually felt decent.
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

my shoes are the type with 3 straps and are not designed to be worn sockless, so getting socks and shoes on is the time killer.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get Tri shoes with one strap and sockless!!
Bike
  • 40m 43s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 22.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike leg was good - course we decent, there were a few stretches where the road was rough, and there was one left hand turn where i got stuck waiting for cars for about 20 secs.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - maybe go a bit harder, still felt good at the end
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Good T2
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 23m 19s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run, struggled a bit about half way through, finished strong
What would you do differently?:

Need to run stronger in the middle - could probably cut off another couple of minutes here.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim practice/experience, lack of confidence in OWS

Event comments:

This was a decent event - only in its 3rd year so organizers are still learning the ropes a bit - could have been a bit better organized, overall though i could recommend it to anyone looking for a fun sprint with a decent atmosphere.
