Pre-race routine:

stayed at Fireside Hotel so was really close. Got up around 4am and ate a bagel with crunchy peanut butter and drove to race site. Got there about 5:15 so parked at the park....decided to hang in the car and close my eyes for a bit. Went and set up transition and got body marked a little before 6am
Event warmup:

walked around a little to try to potty but never could....I did the make a wish fundraiser and raised almost 1200.00 in a couple weeks so I got to meet Chrissie Wellington on Saturday and also had access to 3 private porta potties that not many got to use....that was GREAT!!!

Comments:

I was told the temp was around 76 so wasnt gonna wear my wetsuit...i brought it to the water anyways and glad I did cause it felt cold. I didnt have body glide since I wasnt going to wear it and have a wonderful raw hicky now on my hair line. I could feel it and under my left are rubbing the entire swim but I tried to think about how beautiful the water and swim was. I got trampled very few times on the course assuming the water is so clear you can totally see everything...one guy came on top of me and I kicked the shit out of him and just gave him a look...i thought wtf are you swimming with your eyes closed!! It did get a bit conjested toward the end of the swim also. One time I saw the bottom so clear I thought cool I'll stand real quick and get some cold water on my neck but couldnt touch.

Post race
Warm down:

I had met Chrissie and spent time with her Saturday with the Make A Wish Foundation but was still hoping to get her to put my medal around my neck...when I finished they were trying to get everyone out of the park due to the big storm that was coming in. Chrissie wasnt at the finish line and as I was walking out of the finish shoot she actually spotted me..well my make a wish jersey but I would like to think it was "me" lol. She came over and gave me a big hug I asked if she had won she said yes..asked how my race was and then kept her arm around me as we walked back to the transition area. I told her about Ohio TTT and how much she would love that course even though there isnt really prize money. Heck Gordo needs that course record beaten! :-) We dropped my bike off at MC Cycle to have it shipped back and made it to the car and about 5-10 minutes later came the downpour. We were stuck in the parking lot for a bit but not as bad as I assumed it would be. Felt bad for one gal...i had about a mile left...this was her first HIM and she still had a second lap...she said I have 2 hours to finsih this last lap....we didnt see the lightening on the course at that time and had no idea that they were closing it down so am sure when she got to the turn around she was pulled :-(

Event comments:

best experience at any race ever! I think this was my 18th HIM so had lots to compare it to...even with Louisville twice and Florida once this was still my favorite....think it has something to do with meeting Chrissie though :)

Course: I had planned to drive the course the day before but due some bf issues that didnt happen so I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the entire ride. It wasnt nearly as bad as what I thought but at times I had that feeling of being super slow and barely moving again. Ive been feeling like that on some rides lately - it almost feels like something is rubbing on my wheel but when I check its nothing so my legs just must not be as strong right now. I realized part way on the bike that I had forgot to lay out my garmin for the run...I havent ran without my garmin forever...and I kept thinking..well maybe it will be better time since you cant watch you pace.

Course: The run got hot fast and found the sponges and especially the towels the make a wish foundation gave out to be wonderful at first....then when my socks got so wet I backed off of that. I didnt have my garmin and did find that to slow me down but I did the best I could. I stopped 3 times to wring out my socks...the first time I sat on the ground and when i went to get up had a slight cramp in my inner thigh and scared me...as I got up a guy was running past and yelled..WOW...you should get bonus points for being able to do that-if I got on the ground now I would never get up. My left knee is the one that has 3 of its compartments without much cartilage and then my right foot is the one with tarsel tunnel that i canceled my surgery so I was a hot mess a couple times...it hurts the knee to run and it hurts the foot to walk...there is no happy medium and it really sucks but i make the best of it.
