Pre-race routine:

Had oatmeal and a piece of toast with a cup of coffee. Checked the weather forcast scince it had been raining ALL weekend!!
  • 43m 22s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards

Had a good swim for me. I was hoping to finish under 45 minutes. Swim was great and wetsuit legal. I never felt that I was crowded on the swim. The 5 min. between waves seperated my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more in training. If I had to miss a workout the swim was the one I always missed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s

T1 was good. I probally took and extra 30s to put my wetsuit in the bag to be transported to T2. I think I had the best transition spot in T1. The last spot in the middle row at the bike exit. I had to run my bike 10ft to T1 exit.
  • 3h 18m 45s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.91 mile/hr

This is the best bike course I have ridden a bike on. It was tough but fun. The roads were a little wet but I never felt unsafe. There were several flats on the course which made me worry for a while. By the start of the last loop on the High Road I was ready for the downhill section to T2. My speeds avg. from 7mph to 48mph

BIKE SPLIT 1: 11.4 mi 11.4 mi (40:22) 16.94 mi/h
BIKE SPLIT 2: 29.4 mi 18 mi (1:03:26) 17.03 mi/h

BIKE SPLIT 4: 56 mi 8.6 mi (26:43) 19.31 mi/h
TOTAL BIKE 56 mi (3:18:45) 16.91 mi/h

What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I'm glad I purchased a 11-28 cassette and replace the 11-25.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s

Had a good T2. Everything was dry at this point. Took a drink of water and headed to the run start.
What would you do differently?:

  • 1h 49m 44s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile

RUN SPLIT 1: 2.2 mi 2.2 mi (17:14) 7:49/mi
RUN SPLIT 2: 6.8 mi 4.6 mi (37:58) 8:15/mi
RUN SPLIT 3: 11.3 mi 4.5 mi (39:10) 8:42/mi
RUN SPLIT 4: 13.1 mi 1.8 mi (15:22) 8:32/mi
TOTAL RUN 13.1 mi (1:49:44) 8:22/mi

Had a good run. I run the first 2 miles a little fast but had a good run going until the rain started. I have run in the rain before but not rain like that. It started raining about mile 3 for me. It was a good flat run course that had plenty of people chearing you along despite the weather. I crossed the finish line and was super excited I finished my first 1/2 ironman under 6 hrs.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down on the first couple of miles.
Post race
Warm down:

This sould say warm up for this race. I was freezing after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm very happy with my times. I would like to improve on the swim but have not fiqured out how to do that.

Event comments:

This was my first ironman event. Based on some of the bigger marathons I have done the expo was disapointing.
