Overall Rank = 46/269
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 7/27
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00am and ate 1.5 peanut butter and honey sandwiches on toasted wheat bread. Sipped on a bottle of Gatorade. Loaded my van and headed out by 4:45 and arrived at Camp Blanding around 5:15. I wanted to be there early, but that may have been too early. Waited around for body marking and then went and set up my transition.
Event warmup:

Got in a short pre-race swim. Took a Powerbar Mocha gel with some water about 20 minutes before the start of the race.
Swim
  • 32m 13s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was surprised at the water temperature; thought it would be a little cooler when we got out into the deeper water. From the pre-race nerves the water felt very warm and my tight tri top and swim cap made me feel like I was getting too hot. Finally settled down and swam a little better. Could hardly wait for the swim to get over since I have only swam a total of about 3 hours since last year.
What would you do differently?:

Should have tried to swim more, but knew I could do the distance. Have never really liked swimming and probably never will.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Compared to the top guys my T1 time was slow as Christmas, but I got everything done that I wanted to do.
What would you do differently?:

There is plenty I could do to reduce my T1 time, but don't feel like training for it.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 24s
  • 40 kms
  • 34.09 km/hr
Comments:

Felt fine on the bike and enjoyed the rolling hills. Had only planned on a 20 mph average so I was happy with a 21 mph average.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Felt good with my transition even though there is plenty I could do to reduce my T2 time.
Run
  • 48m 10s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 49s  min/km
Comments:

Ran the complete race without stopping. Started out slow focusing on a quick stride count. Almost felt like my calves could cramp a little, but they never did. Thought they were going to have some gatorade or gels on the run course and all they had was water. Was able to pick up the pace for the last mile and finish strong.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe take a bottle of Gatorade or a gel with me on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Took a dip in the lake to rinse off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A total lack of serious training.

Event comments:

Have a feeling this may be my last triathlon. I have now completed all the distances from a sprint to an IM and am happy with all my finish times.
