Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30 ate a piece of toast with peanut butter and drank a peach fuze to wash down the ibuprofen as I was fighting a migraine.

Got to the race location an hour early for packet pick up. Besides that just paced alot and chatted with other runners trying to not be nervous.

Comments:

Was very nervous for this race as the longest trail run I had done was 6.3 miles. Had only run 8 miles once before this and that was mostly road. Was unfamiliar with this coarse as I had only run 2.5 miles of the trails at Farmdale. Started out at the back of the pack so I wouldn't be tempted to start out too fast. Settled into a nice even pace and just enjoyed the day. Perfect weather for a run. A couple of my hash friends were running the 33 mile race which started 15 minutes after ours. My goal was to reach the 3 mile mark before Greg passed me. I actually made it to the 4 mile mark before he did so was very happy. At this point realized I was going to come in well under my goal time of 2:15:00. About mile 6 started to slow down a little. Stopped to let a group of runners pass me. The last runner says "You don't have to let me pass I'm slow" I responded with "so am I" When we introduced ourselves realized we knew each other. She was another of the Hash runners. Spent the last two miles pacing each other and keeping our motivation up. Was lots of fun to run with someone of the same speed level. One of the neatest things about this course was the unique bridges. These were mainly over massive tree trunks on the trail and not over water ways. Feet did get wet. Also the run through the pine forest part of the trail was a trip. I've never run on pine needles before. It was so light and springy, I felt like I was tip toeing not running.
What would you do differently?:

Not really much. Maybe have a bit more faith in myself. This was my first trail run so wasn't sure what to expect. Have to say it felt like I ran for a 1/2 hour not almost 2 hours.
Post race
Warm down:

refilled my water bottles and walked around for a bit while sipping to rehydrate. Snagged an MM cookie to take the leading edge off my hunger.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a novice at trail running.

Event comments:

This was a great first time trail run. My training route was on harder trails so although this distance was longer I was well prepared and feel more confident for future trail runs.
