Comments: Great swim, but hard to sight the second buoy because of the sun! I was just lucky I wasn't first and everyone else knew where they were going. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I'm always slow in transition. I don't wear a trisuit, so I have to put on my biking shorts. What would you do differently?: I'm considering a trisuit. ![]() Bike
Comments: Ack. Had to ride a rented bike because my L gear shifting mechanism broke down the day before the race! Still, an awesome little bike store in Copper Harbor hooked me up, so at least I could race. What would you do differently?: I would be interested to know if the bike made a difference; my pace is usually 18-19mph, but that's for shorter races. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: A little slower than my usual transition, because I had forgotten to bring nutrition on the bike (sigh), so I had to gobble some shotblocks and Clif bars before the run. What would you do differently?: Remember nutrition on the bike. ![]() Run
Comments: I literally stopped at every aid station. ![]() Post race
Event comments: I thought the course was really hard and it was probably really silly of me to choose it as my first half-iron, but what a gorgeous spot! Perfect conditions and awesome volunteers! Plus, prizes were great, local pottery and Northern Michigan honey; awesome. I recommend this race as a challenge, esp for people who like nature. Bald eagles, bears, and deer, and a ridiculously warm summer for Lake Superior. Nice race! Last updated: 2011-09-01 12:00 AM
