Swim
Comments: Terrible swim. The fact that is was so cold in the morning air didn't help relax me getting into the water. I did 1/2 breathing the entire time as I just couldn't relax. First 100 yards was shallow so swimming was tough. There were a lot of people to watch out for so I had to always check to stay to the outside so I didn't get swum over. What would you do differently?: Wetsuit would have helped on this one. Transition 1
Comments: Another terrible T1. It was very cold in the morning starting the bike so I brought with me a long sleeved jacket. I put it on in T1 and couldn't zipper it up. The nylon zipper was all chewed-up. I needed to at least get it up halfway so it didn't flap on the bike. My fingertips were numb. nearly 5 minutes later I got the zipper up enough. What would you do differently?: Test my jacket before taking it with me. Bike
Comments: I took Gatorade with me this time. I did great on the bike course...I passed everyone - nobody passed me (except the 3 very fast oly bikers that caught up with the slowest sprint athletes like me. I felt very strong on the hills. I was very comfortable on the steep declines and didn't use my brakes (something I have done in past triathlons). Even though I felt great on the bike, I was still slow overall - can't complain as I don't do any bike training. Transition 2
Comments: This was quick. T2 is so quick I always think I am forgetting something. Run
Comments: I kept it easy. At the turnaround I consciously put on the speed - knowing it was a nice and easy downhill all the way back. I had one water midway. The final part of the course was further away than I anticipated. I was able to hold my pace anyways. I passed many people and did not get passed. What would you do differently?: It was a perfect run - better than last week even. Post race
Warm down: A little walking...cookies, watermelon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike training and the swim. Event comments: Very well run race by HFP racing. Now why doesn't anyone serve breakfast at the big season-ending races? That would be perfect. Last updated: 2011-09-03 12:00 AM

This race was near me so I got to sleep in a little more versus last weeks 2 hour drive. Wife and kids came with me. Had some coffee.
No warmup.
