North Carolina Triathlon Series
78F / 26C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 54s
Overall Rank = 141/402
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 22/73
Pre-race routine:

Downed 11oz of Slim Fast shake 2.5 hours before race; downed 1 Hammergel and 3 endurolytes (with water) 5-10 mins before start.
Event warmup:

Rode about 3/4 mile from parking lot (fast spinning); ran about 1/2 mile at varying speeds
Swim
  • 15m 7s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started too fast in first 200 meters;had a hard time getting breathing rhythm; water temp on Thursday was 85 degrees. Heard announcement that temp was 75 degrees as I arrived at transition. 10 mins before start time, revised announcement that water temp was 82 degress; by that time, it was too late to remove wetsuit; after thinking about it, why would I? (I'm not going to win any awards and I don't care about the NCTS points).
What would you do differently?:

Start a little slower
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

Put on shoes in transition as run from T1 to bike mount line was covered with rocks; took time to dry feet, put on socks, shoes, etc.
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Bike
  • 48m 28s
  • 17 miles
  • 21.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Passed by a number of 40+ year olds; need more strength to keep up
What would you do differently?:

More speed work and hill work; need to learn to ride sockless and with shoes already in pedals.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Had to work around obstacles (people, volleyball (sand) pit) in transition area; once at my spot, worked quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 21m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m  min/mile
Comments:

Kept good pace throughout
What would you do differently?:

Should have turned in on a little more the last mile
Post race
Warm down:

16 oz bottle of Powerade, 20oz bottle of Recoverite; high carb snacks provided at race

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Leg strength and lung capacity; not enough LTHR work leading up to race;

Event comments:

Wanted to break 1hr 30min, missed by 55 seconds but improved by almost 17 mins over last year
