Comments: Started on the inside in water with only a few people in front of me. Started running into the back of the guy in front of me instantly. Did a good job staying on inside and rounding buoys. What would you do differently?: Start out in front...sprint the beginning to get away then start to cruise in for the finish. Transition 1
Comments: Long hard uphill, walked most of it to get heart rate in check..started to get cramp/stich in side. Put shoes on standing up at T1, did not do it with shoes clipped in. What would you do differently?: Try to do with shoes on clips and run up the hill. Bike
Comments: Really felt good on flats and downhills but struggled with all of the hills. Did much better in training on hills. Bike did great, gears smooth...not enough fluids. What would you do differently?: Need to work on climbing strength and recovery. Need to do better job taking in fluids. Transition 2
Comments: Ended up having to sit down to put shoes on...pretty tired legs. I should have ran all of the way out of the transition, but walked first part. What would you do differently?: Put shoes on while standing up...run out of the transition. Run
Comments: Felt exhausted coming out of T2...did some run/walk for first 1 mile or so which may have not been the worst idea since I ran most of the 2nd mile and my time was slower. My HR was pretty good most of the time but felt like I had nothing left. The last mile I tried to pick up the pace but couldn't get my legs to turn over any faster. What would you do differently?: Need to really work on my pacing and finishing strength. Post race
Warm down: Was so worried about finding out how my gf was doing that I didn't really warm-down unless you count the jog over to the transition area to see her coming out of T2. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think if my left glute didn't hurt I could have picked up a little, but not much. I think my slow T1, terrible climbing on the bike, and slow run were all to blame. Event comments: This year was a little less organized, perhaps the weather had a part to play. I felt they were less strict on protecting the transition area. After the race they were not checking wrist bands of folks going in and out of the transition area which made me nervous. In fact, my sister went and got my gf's bike out of transition and nobody said a word. Overall though, I like this race a lot and the organizers do a good job. Last updated: 2011-09-08 12:00 AM
