Swim
Comments: Second time ever in open water, first time swimming more than ~100 meters in open water continuously. The actually swimming was no problem, my course was just absolutely terrible. I probably swam an extra 300 meters. Felt really relaxed though. What would you do differently?: Learn to site and how to adjust for current Transition 1
Comments: ~1/4 mile run to transition area. Bike
Comments: went really well. novices started in the back, so i had lots of people to try to chase down. just kept thinking "seek and destroy" the whole time. What would you do differently?: set up a bottle holder between my aerobars so i dont have to reach under for every drink. make sure my bike computer is working (which it wasn't) Transition 2
Run
Comments: first 7 miles or so were awesome, no problems at all... after that, not so much. i'd never run more than 9 miles before, and that was a mistake. the last 4 were really bad, alot more walking than i wanted. but i had some serious stomach cramps, and i wasn't able to push through. What would you do differently?: figure out my nutrition better. practice running >10 miles at least once. Post race
Warm down: lie down. eat. drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: it was my first triathlon ever, so a general lack of experience. run was definitely the limiting factor, with a decent run (9 min/mile average) i would have been pretty close to 5:30, which would have been awesome. but i was shooting for sub 6, so i was very happy. Event comments: Parking situation was terrible. Other than that, awesome. Last updated: 2011-09-10 12:00 AM

so this was my first triathlon ever, and i'd say it definitely showed. I woke up plenty early, got some food in, left the hotel with plenty of time. But then waited to park for about 30 minutes. Got to the transition area about 5 minutes before they closed it. Forgot my numbers at the hotel, had to go get new ones. Didn't even pack goggles, luckily a friend let me borrow some. Thought it was wetsuit legal (the day before I had been told it was 76) so i had left my swimskin in my car. Started walking down to the swim start just before 7 (my heat was the last to go at 7:18) when someone told me it was 79, and not wetsuit legal. Had to run back to the transition area, grab my bike, ride over to my car, get my swimskin, ride back, re rack my bike, run down to the swim start, get in ~3 minutes of swimming, and then start. Hectic to say the least.
running all over the place trying to find my stuff, and just enough swimming to make sure my borrowed goggles fit alright.
