Swim
Comments: Beach start with about a 100 yard run in shallow water to the first buoy. Once I got around the first buoy I had a good line to the turn and kept a good pace. The turn was a little confusing as the buoys were moved while we were swimming, but I got around the first turn pretty well. Turning to come back I took a bad line and ended up getting out wide for the next 500 yards or so. Good final turn, but slow across the shallows into the beach. What would you do differently?: For my first olympic swim I thought the pace was good, but I should have focused on the line coming back. I probably lost about 30 seconds coming back to the course. Overall it was a good swim. Transition 1
Comments: The time is a little misleading as it includes the quarter mile run up to the transition area. I had a good exit off of the beach and a solid jog up to transition. Wetsuit came off well and I got out quick. 2nd fastest transition time for the event. This was the first time I had my shoes on the bike and I had a little trouble getting my feet into them. Still a very fast, efficient transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: On the way out I tried to keep a steady cadence without pushing too hard. On the way back I pushed a little harder but still kept the cadence around 80-85. The course is nice and smooth with a few rolling hills and great scenery through the forest. Overall it was a great ride. What would you do differently?: Train more on longer rides so I could push the speed a bit more. Transition 2
Comments: Got off the bike well and into transition quickly. I had a little trouble getting socks/shoes on, but overall it was pretty smooth. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: Started pretty strong and had a good first 2-3 miles. Broke down a bit around the 4.5 mile mark, but pulled it together for the last 3/4 of a mile. What would you do differently?: Overall the run felt pretty good. With this being the first olympic event run I thought I paced myself well, but didn't keep quite enough in the tank. Longer training runs and more endurance work should help. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the finish area and watched my wife finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Endurance and lack of experience in the olympic distance. Event comments: 3 Disciplines does a great job with this event. I really enjoyed the course and the post race party. We will be back next year! Last updated: 2011-09-11 12:00 AM

Stayed at the Americ Inn in Oscoda. Woke up around 6 and ate at the hotel. Drove into Tawas and got transition set up around 7. Down to the beach for the meeting and half start.
None.
