Swim
Comments: First open water swim with flailing bodies all around- could have been faster, but I went with a moderate and consistent pace- kept my cool. I could have gone faster- but I am not dissapointed- The run to transition probably burned another 45 seconds also What would you do differently?: Just practice swimming- I have some natural ability (simply because I hardly trained on swimming) Also with this experience I wont be as reluctant to paddle though other swimmers. Main thing is just finding time to get in some pool time ( an accessable pool would be helpful too). Transition 1
Comments: Felt that I set up area well- lost a lens in sunglasses so i did without them, also too a few seconds to take a sip of gatorade What would you do differently?: Time to get better sunglasses Bike
Comments: I need to get faster- I left a little in the tank, but I squandered some opportunities to shave time- Also some guy was hugginh the left on the last mile (the fastest part) and I could not pass him legally- that was frustrating- cost me 30 seconds or so What would you do differently?: I think as I lose weight and keep training this will get better for me- I was actually pleased with the performance- this is a weak spot for me- I have only been cycling seriously for a couple of months now. Just got clip on aerobars and they were great- just need to get used to them. Other than that I could just buy a 5000$ bike to shave a few seconds, for now I'll stick to my 25 pounds of steel. Transition 2
Comments: pretty clean- forgot to ditch my gu flask- annoying bouncing around my back on the run so I pitched it What would you do differently?: Just use the gu packets- they are easier and lighter Run
Comments: man it was tough to get the legs churning- I was surprised to run in under 30- I felt like I was soo slow. I really struggled uphill and I have developed some killer shin splints. I survived and felt good at the and ans sprinted my heart out the last 1/4 mile or so What would you do differently?: More bike to run bricks- also need to integrate some speed training in my run- As I lose weight and get stronger it will get better Post race
Warm down: drank water, gatorade, hammer gel recovery drink. Ate bagel, banana, and cookie. Also walked for about 20 minutes What limited your ability to perform faster: my inexperience and physical conditioning. I have come a long way and am very happy with where I finished- but this is a starting point and the pressure to do better next time will motivate me Event comments: Great experience- the other bt'ers really enhanced the experience. Cant wait to do another Last updated: 2006-04-24 12:00 AM
