Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 100/17
Pre-race routine:

Didn't sleep well. Had a bagel with peanut butter and some water. Drove to the race. Parking was close to transition.
Event warmup:

Light activity, light stretching
Swim
  • 12m 57s
  • 400 meters
  • 03m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was the last event. First tri in a pool and first reverse tri. Once I got going I had to calm myself down and get into a groove so I think my early laps are what hurt my time. The one way serpentine was nice. Easy for passing (which I didn't do much).
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on swimming.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Reverse tri so no cap/goggles etc to worry about. Changed from running shoes to bike shoes ok. A little trouble with one shoe. Grabbed a squirt of GU because I'm not used to nutrition on the new bike yet. Hat off helmet on. Wore gloves. Still wonder about wasting the time but I like having them on.
What would you do differently?:

Get used to nutrition on the new bike
Bike
  • 44m 5s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 16.88 mile/hr
Comments:

Enjoyed the course and the hills. Almost had one lady turn into me as I passed her. Trouble going to "big gear". A lot of shifting so I needed to go in and out quite a bit. Worked out ok other than a little stressful.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder, train harder on bike, get an aero bottle and work on nutrition on the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Reverse tri so ran bike in, stripped to suit, grabbed goggles and headed for the pool. The C3PO legs after the bike are even more so with bare feet! I guess I'm slow enought that the RD allowed the spectators into transition so I had to dodge them to get back to my spot. Putting on goggles as I ran to the pool went well.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Run
  • 27m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The run went really well. I started to think I took it too easy untill the last half mile or so then I was glad I set the pace I had. Passed a number of women which was motivating because I was afraid of being DFL.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Had some dry bagels and finished my powerade from the bike

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training

Event comments:

Loved the one-way serpentine in the pool. Enjoyed the reverse too. A small race so transition was easy to navigate. Well managed (other than spectators in transition). Will plan to do again.
