Swim
Comments: DIdn't have much energy today and worked too hard crossing the channel. After the first turn I felt a little better. Swam at close to the pace I planned. As it turns out this was the best part of my race. What would you do differently?: Start further to the left and let the current take me to the right. Transition 1
Comments: While I was told that it was a long way from the swim exit to the transition area nobody told me how rough the road was. it really did a number on my feet. Exhausted from swim and walked a long way with bike to mount line. Put on my bike jacket as I was feeling cold. What would you do differently?: I need to be in better shape for the swim so I could run out of transition. Turns out I probably didn't need the cycling jacket. Bike
Comments: Still didn't have much energy so I didn't push. Followed some slower riders for too long. I was just wiped out today. FIrst race in which the bike wasn't my best segment but I just didn't have the energy and decided to save some for the run. What would you do differently?: Don't stay behind slow riders for so long. Be in better physical condition. I don't know what was wrong but somethings been coming on for a few days. Transition 2
Comments: Better transition than T1. Was able to run through transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My right hamstring started cramping up almost immediately. I had to shorten my stride and run slower to try and let it relax. After 2.5 miles I was finally able to lengthen my stride and pick up my pace. Still didn't have much energy. What would you do differently?: Be in better condition. I have to figure out why I get cramps after longer swims as I am hardly using my legs at all. Maybe I need to use more legs in the swim? Post race
Warm down: Had some Gatorade and part of a sandwich. Tried to stretch out a little. Couldn't bend over without cramping. What limited your ability to perform faster: I have been somewhat sick all week with cold sweats at various times. I felt OK on race day but had very little energy. Event comments: I really could have enjoyed this race if I felt a little better. I spent way too much time in transition trying to recuperate. Oh well, there's always next year. Arrived early, set up transition, got my chip and body marking. Hung out with a friend and then took the bus to the swim start.
Had to wait one and a half hours for my swim start. Haven't felt well for the last couple of days so I just rested. Was happy to hear that wet suits would be legal at 76 degrees.
