Run
Comments: I hated the fact that the entire race was on the lefthand side of the road. We were constantly running at a slight angle, sometimes somewhat steep angle. I ran on the sidewalk or on the shoulder when I could just to get a flat surface. But everyone talked so scary about the hills, including the official race information--I thought it was just fine. Yes, there were hills, but if you've trained on hills, they weren't a problem. What would you do differently?: Pacing! While I'm pleased I did a negative split (2:55 first half, 2:25 second half), I was appalled to see the time at 13.1! I hadn't kept an eye on my watch or taken time to do the math to figure out where I was. Post race
Warm down: I walked until I felt like I could stand still without seizing up. Took a quick warm shower, did a little stretching, but not enough. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of attention to time. I may have made my goal of sub-five if I'd paid more attention to pacing. Event comments: I loved it! My only complaints were the lefthand angle the entire time and the fact that they didn't tell us where the porta-potties were, leaving people to pee in the woods then round the corner to see a porta-potty. But it was beautiful, the the officials and the volunteers were friendly and seemed to have everything under control. The finisher's medal is hefty and beautiful. The windbreaker you get with entry is a quality item. And the course itself is indeed grand. Last updated: 2011-09-18 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:15 for breakfast, foam roller, etc.
Arrived at the start about 40 minutes early--30 min. was required in order to check a shower bag. I walked about half a mile to get there, then just kept walking around, pausing to stretch occasionally.
