Run
Comments: went out a bit fast, but settled in for 3rd position in wave and maintained to T1 What would you do differently?: nothing...well, train more Transition 1
Comments: I love duathlon txns What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: starting in last wave you'd think I could maximize the slingshot effect of rolling up through the USAT draft zone on a ton of people...but reality was the most useful people for that purpose were long gone and I was closing on the rest of the riders too fast to really gain anything. if anything, i wasted time/distance/energy moving in and out so much. also was faced with more than the usual # of ppl riding out of position (too far left, etc) and forcing either double-yellow crossings or otherwise illegal passes on the right. What would you do differently?: sign up earlier next time to get an earlier wave placement! Transition 2
Comments: nice and clean What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: might've slacked a little since I had my training partner/nemesis in sight 150yds up the road and he was 2 waves in front of me so I had him beat (barring a major meltdown)...but only a little. on the edge of hurling most of the way. was batting a no-hitter until 1/4-1/3mi to go when I was passed by someone from a very early wave. surged near the end to keep him within about 10-15sec (plus umpteen wave staggers). What would you do differently?: nothing...except train more. Post race
Warm down: shake hands with guys finishing in front and behind, get into pancake line. PANCAKES!! memo to all other early-day RDs: this is a killer food option. What limited your ability to perform faster: in order of decreasing effect: slacking on run training, hard ~50mi road ride the day before, didn't bring the fastest bike in the garage Event comments: how can you argue with post-race pancakes, seriously? run course likely a smidge short...I'm not capable of those splits right now. call it 1.9mi each and I'll believe it (but this only matters if you're hyper vigilant on tracking performances...reality is everyone did the same course you did). bike course is spot-on for distance and has just enough variety to keep things interesting. long time racer, first time at this event...thought the organizers did a good job.
