Pre-race routine:

Got there on friday. Had dinner went to bed early. Saturday did a 20 minute swim/bike. Then got registered and took bike to transition. Had a late lunch/dinner in hotel room. Stayed away from the pre-race craziness. This is my third year doing Augusta. Felt relaxed. Slept well.
Event warmup:

Dropped off near transition, set up. I was calm and organzied and had all my gear as it was supposed to be. Racing my new Cervelo P 4. Decided to put Perform in my aerobottle and not water. A lsight change, no big deal. Also put new speed laces in shoes night before. Again no big deal....rigghhhhtttt....

Comments:

This is a crowded swim and I touched people a lot. It didnt make me nervous at all. I am used to it by now. The current was great.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on swimming faster. Make my mind up about bi-lateral versus single side breathing
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

A dumb decision to not take water on the bike cost me a great day. I came out of the water feeling fine but my BR was slightly up. Not sure if too much GU at that point.
What would you do differently?:

Stick to my nutrition plan EXACTLY
Bike

Comments:

I ended up pushing the bike more than I planned. I got with a group of girls and felt like I wanted to go. I averaged just sub 20. I shouldnt have pushed the bike BUT it ws drinking nothing but perform and GU's the messed me up later.
What would you do differently?:

NEVER change your nutrition plan during a race. I ended up dehydrated because I only drank perform and not enough water. I ended up with my HR pounding and it was a mixture of too much sugar and pushing the bike harder than I needed to.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 3h 00m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 44s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I learned a vERY vaulable lesson for IMFL. I will NOT push the bike. I WILL drink plenty of water and I WILL stick to a nutrition plan.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished walking and just enjoying the show. Sat down and tried to figure out where the porta-potty was.

Event comments:

Great race, people and perfect course. Look forward to redeeming myself next year

Here is where it all imploded. BY mile 3 I was a mess. My new speed laces made my left foot go numb and I was an idiot and didnt know that was what was causing it. I could have run through the pain if it wasnt for the stupid stomach cramps I got by mile 4. The dehyration set it, too much sugar and I was a mess. I felt aweful. I have never had the tummy issues everyone talks about before. It just sucked. I ran from porta-potty to porta-potty. Disgusting. I walked more than I ran. I was at 3:40 at the ned of mile 1. Three and a half hours to walk/run a half mary just sucks.
Course: Flat, warm and rainy. It would have been great if I hadnt screwed it all up.
