Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3 am for breakfast of oatmeal and coffe, Dropped off the car at T2 after set up and took the shuttle back to T1. Met female pro Jessica Myers on the shuttle. Very nice and down to earth person. Talked alot with her and was so caught up that I forgot my bag with my bike shoes in them on the shuttle. Got them back when the shuttle returned 20 minutes later. Yeah I am an idiot!
Event warmup:

Very short swim. water felt great!
Swim
  • 41m 18s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Improvement over last year but my swim is what it is. After the first 300 yards I settled into a nice relaxed swim. Sighted well and even did some drafting on some of fishes until they left me in their wake.
What would you do differently?:

Get lessons but lets be honest I am not going to do that.
Transition 1
  • 03m 17s
Comments:

Long run from beach to transition spot but was very close to T1 exit right next to the pros, which was empty.
What would you do differently?:

need to get faster at this but it is an improvement from last year.
Bike
  • 3h 17m 11s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Can not say enough of this bike course! Very tough but fair course. Branson really pulls out the stops on this course closing an entire highway for this event. The roads are very smooth and scenic. 3 loop course with plenty of aid stations. Recent change to course added a bike path with no passing for 1/2 mile. Huge new steep downhill close to T2.
What would you do differently?:

get stronger on hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

again I need to get this time way down!
Run
  • 2h 06m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I have never been very fast. This time is only 15 minutes from my stand alone time.
What would you do differently?:

Loose weight and train harder.
Post race
Warm down:

No need to warm down in this epic downpour.

Event comments:

Can not say enough about this race. The people and volunteers of Branson are just awesome! Seeing those little kids standing out in the epic downpours handing out drinks and gu was just endearing. Hats off to Pro Devon Palmer! His race was over on the bike course and he stayed out there helping age groupers out with flats and even giving up his rear Zipp disk to someone who flatted. What other sport would pro's do this in?
If you want a fair and challenging race course with a town that rolls out the red carpet and great volunteers look at Branson. Next year the race will be held Oct 7th which should help with the temps and being to close to Las Vegas.
