Run
Comments: I think I paced myself pretty well for this. I have been having knee problems for about a week before the race so I was really concerned it would be painful. I tried really hard to just keep my "normal" form before I started messing with it, to try to keep from aggravating the knee. It held up pretty well was pretty tolerable. At the 2 mile mark I really let it out and sped up big time. I conserved just the right amount of energy for the end. What would you do differently?: I probably could have run faster for longer if I weren't worried about my knee hurting too much. I definitely held back in order to be able to finish strong. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little bit. Gulped down two bottles of water and ate a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: My knee pain. Event comments: I think the traffic was controlled pretty well for us running through the city. There was an issue with a train of tourists that cut through the run and stopped a lot of runners. Probably my only other complaint was that there weren't any water stations. Probably only one would have been needed, even though it was just a 5K it was kind of warm out. Dinner the night before was steaktips, sauteed squash and cipolinis, and couscous. For dessert a bowl of cereal.
Breakfast 2.5 hours before the race was a protein shake of milk, protein powder, a banana, a cup of banana yogurt and a couple spoonfuls of rolled oats.
A couple of sun salutations really got my body warmed up. Then 20 mins before the start I jogged for about 5 mins and then stretched. I ended up with about 10 mins to spare before the race start.
