Pre-race routine:

Woke Up at 4:00am and ate a bagle and half a mango with some chocolate soy milk then made the hour drive to the race course. During the drive I drank a glass of cytomax to try and replace some of fluids i lost during the night. Once at the event made the 15 min walk from parking to the race area and proceded to set of transition. During this time I continued to hydrate as the day was sepose to be very hot.
Event warmup:

My warmup conssisted of 10mins of light jogging on the trails that the race was going to occure on. This was followed by 5-10 mins of stretcheing at wich point i finished transition set up and put on my wetsuit. I also consumed a Gu pack at this point with some more water. From this point on I was in the water alternating floating and swimming warm up adjusting my new googgles for the race ahead. The race started at 7am sharp.
Swim
  • 26m 10s
  • 1250 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall my navigation and turning were awesome and better then i have ever done before but I think i went out a little fast at the beginning. This burst of speed at the beginning made it much harder to swim the last 500 or so. At this point it weas much harder to do a heads up stroke so i had to switch to brest stroke to be able to site the turns.
What would you do differently?:

Work on the my paceing of the swimming so i dont tire out towards the end and lastly work on sprinting so i can just swim faster overall.
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

For the first time it was fairly easy to get my wetsuit off and it did not get stuck on my ankles, but i did still have ot sit down to get it off so easy and also to but myh bike shoes on. For some reason I had a majior problem with the bike shoes which just did not want to go on and latch. So i just sliped them on and latched them later.
What would you do differently?:

I would work on the jumping on to the bike with the shoes already atached so that i can spare the time of sitting down to put the shoes on.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 52s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.15 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike course was extreamly fast and flat. I had a hard time in the first couple mins trying to latch my shoes but when that was done i was flying down the course with a cadence of around 80-90. The hill climb was around mile 12 and was about a mile long. I think this went really well. I didnt automaticly switch into the lowest gear and I got out of the saddle and pushed it harder up the hill. Once this was over I felt awesome and continued to push it over the rest of the course. This is a personal recored for me and was an awesom ride.
What would you do differently?:

I would have aerobars so that I could get into a more wind resisten position and also not effect my running muscles as much. Just work on getting faster...
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

This was a typical bike run transistion for me. I ran in with my bike put on my socks and running shoes and was out in a flash.
What would you do differently?:

In order to make it faster i would work towards running with out socks.
Run
  • 1h 11m 56s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was good for the first 4 miles. I was keeping a less then 10/mile pace and kepping hydrated but at about mile four i started to have to really have to use the restroom and on this course there are no portopotties and at this point in the race no place to stop and take a leak. So I pushed on and by about 4.5 miles i was really slowing down and so had to go off course and find a place to go. This took about 3 mins. This process severly slowed my run by about 10min total with the slow in running and the finding a place to go.
What would you do differently?:

Work on runs so i can get faster. Find a bathroom earlier....
Post race
Warm down:

Directly after finishing I jumped back into the lack to cool down and while stting in the lake for about 15 min I stretched out and floated around to relax. This was followed by participation in the finish festivites and plenty of food and hydration.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This race was an awesome race for me overall and the only thing that would have limited me from going faster is just plane base traning to get faster.

Event comments:

This race has an awesome party at the finish line and they have a huge amount of food avalable for the athletes to eat. They even have free beer for the finisher as well. But one thing is there is a lack of portopotties on the run and bike. I also think that some of the mile markers on the run were as much as a half a mile off since some of my miles were really short time and some longer. Overall it is a decent race.
