Age Group Rank = 141/208
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30, had two packets of instant oatmeal and a power bar. Drank some gatorade on the way to the race. Short walk and easy set up in transition.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 10min to warm up.
Swim
  • 28m 54s
  • 1650 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

Water was hot! Started easy and picked up the pace after the 1st turn. Ran into some congestion on the last leg which was kind of a hassle to get through. Felt pretty good and overall gave it about a 75% effort. With that I think the distance was off a bit because I can usually hold 1:25 to 1:30 per 100yds and I don't think my time reflected my effort.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, swimming is my strong suit and I've got a pretty good handle on it.
Transition 1
  • 04m 17s
Comments:

Easy transition, not many people around so it was easy to change. Didn't forget anything.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 33m 57s
  • 30 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good, just tried to keep a comfortable spin and watch the hundreds of people pass me. I'm not a strong cyclist so all the people I pass in the swim get me back. Loved the course, smooth roads and rural scenery were a pleasure. Having the roads closed to traffic was awesome!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I raced within my capabilities and followed my plan.
Transition 2
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

T2 went smooth, I did forget my FrogTogg though which would have felt good. Otherwise was good.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my frogtogg
Run
  • 1h 01m 45s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

My goal was to run comfortable, not walk other than in the aid stations and try to keep my 180 steps/minute cadence for the entire run which I was able to do. The volunteers at the aid stations were great! Can't say enough good about them. Definately made dealing with the heat managable.
What would you do differently?:

Could've run harder but what would have been the point?
Post race
Warm down:

Pretzles, and lots of them.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being slow.

Event comments:

Overall a very good race, I would definately consider doing it again, if nothing else but to do it as an actual 70.3
