Swim
Comments: Water was nice. Swimming in a wetsuit was nice. Start was a little crowded and I had trouble finding a place to swim. There was rough chop due to wind on the outbound part of the loop. I didn't feel bad, but caught some elbows and water in the mouth. My sighting was off as well. Still a swim PR for me and happy overall. What would you do differently?: Practice sighting and maybe be more aggressive about surging to pick a spot. Transition 1
Comments: Strippers got my suit off fast, but I dropped it while running in. No seats in T1 when I got in, so I lost time trying to balance Nick came in behind me and was pissed I was there. I helped him with his arm sleeves, as getting those things on wet is impossible. Also had to use the port-o-let. Still an improvement over last IM transition. What would you do differently?: Practice peeing on the swim. Grab a seat or sit on the ground. Bike
Comments: This course was tough. Rolling hills and some big ones, and it was windy as well. A little cold on race day, which helped me. I wore running gloves so my fingers wouldn't get numb. I was worried my nose would chafe from me having to blow it so often on the bike. I felt good about my ride. I think I was consistent across all three laps. I did have to stop on lap 1 to pick up my gear bottle that had ejected when I hit a pothole. I also had to stop 3 times on loop 3, once for a banana, once for a pee, and once because my chain dropped and I had to yank it into place. What would you do differently?: A little more hill work, but overall, my bike was just what I wanted. Transition 2
Comments: Bike Valet, so no worries about racking, which is nice. Dumped my gear, stuffed the bag with bike shoes and helmet and headed out. Legs felt good, and I was sooooo glad to be off the bike. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: Running is by far my weakest discipline in Ironman. However, I felt good about my run this time. I was solid, did my run walk 9 min run and 1 minute walk with occasional extra walk at the water stop where it didn't match up. Since it was cool, I didn't need as much fluid as usual. Still had some issues with nausea on the run, but overall I was happy. My pace felt solid, but I couldn't keep the pace on the hills at the end of each loop. Nothing hurt specifically, but it was tough. Still, 15 minutes better than my IM Cozumel run. Could have been 30 minutes better!!!! What would you do differently?: More run training. I never did anything longer than 15 in training and rarely had more than 20 miles per week. That just isn't enough. Post race
Warm down: Hug family and sit with friends. Some stretching, a shower and then manned the water station until 1 in the morning cheering on my friends and other competitors. What limited your ability to perform faster: Some training issues. Overall, I was happy. Event comments: I really enjoyed the race. Smaller race and local feel. Bike course is tough since it is an open course. It was AMAZING to have so many friends there to see and cheer. Made the bike and run that much easier to handle. I would do this one again, as the course is a challenge, and isn't that part of the point? Last updated: 2011-09-27 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4 AM and had a Mix1 and half a Granola bar. Woke up at 5:30/6 ish to have a waffle.
Get down to race and put bottles on bike, pump tires, get on the wetsuit and try to stay calm.
Putting on the wetsuit and trying to stay warm were plenty of warmup for me.
