Swim
Comments: I was so much more comfortable in the water this race. I was able to stay calm and relaxed, and in turn, didn't experience the panicky feeling and out of breath problems that I've had in the past. I had a couple of swimmers cut in front of me oblivious to anything around them. One girl did it twice, and I grabbed her ankle on the second pass. She stayed away from me. (Okay, I'm feeling the tinest bit guilty about that - she's probably telling stories in her race report about some crazy person that tried to drown her!) What would you do differently?: Nothing - I swam to the best of my ability right now. More practice focusing on proper techniques will make my next race better. Transition 1
Comments: Started off not crossing the mat and had to go back to the T-1 entrance. Moved VERY slowly when I made it to my bike. Couldn't get my Garmin strapped on, fumbled with my shoes. Blah. blah. blah What would you do differently?: Move faster Bike
Comments: I was getting passed like crazy on the bike, but was doing a decent pace (for me!) At times I had riders passing on the left and riders from the opposite direction coming at me from the right side. It w Didn't pass a single person. A couple of times I would get frustrated and start pushing harder, but remembering cramps from my last over-exertion kept me from pushing too hard. It was a frustrating ride, but I feel like I gave it my best shot. What would you do differently?: Nothing - need more T.I.T.S. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to it. Helmet & gloves off and started running What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Actually ran out of T2. Walked through 2 water stops, but otherwise ran the entire distance. The trail portion got a little tricky at times with tree roots and uneven dirt surfaces, and although I kept my legs in a running position, I could have stopped to walk faster than I was running, but I wanted to keep the momentum going and not start walking. I actually passed someone on the trail, but most everyone was finished by the time I got through the run. Tried to focus on staying relaxed - didn't feel like I was very successful, but did a good job keeping my heartrate under control, in fact, looking back at the numbers, I should have been able to push harder, but geeze, I was tired! What would you do differently?: Nothing - practice and experience will make it all better in the future! Post race
Warm down: Had some water, orange sections, and pretzels at the finish. Talked to my hubby, wsm9363, the race coordinator, the bike guy from TriTech Multisports and some other competitors. Found a shady area to do a nice long stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: My old and tired body! Event comments: Overall, it was a great race for me. Had a great swim, an above average bike, and a fun run! Wish I could have had faster times, but I gave it my best effort and didn't leave anything on the course. I'm moving in the right direction and I can't ask for anything more than that. Last updated: 2006-04-25 12:00 AM

Woke at 4 am - had a bowl of raisin bran & coffee, took off for the race site about 4:45.
Had a flat on my bike first thing. Didn't have a spare with me, so I thought we were going to have to turn around and come back home before the race even got started, but TriTech had a maintenance tent on-site and was able to change my tire for me!
Few upper body stretches - some easy swimming. Talked to a couple of people I recognized from another tri and to wsm9363, the only other BT person I saw there.
