Run
Comments: Started out faster than planned, but since miles 8-16 were into a strong headwind, I planned on finding someone around 8:20 to 8:30 to draft, but couldn't. So, into the wind I drafted preople faster than I wanted. Legs started getting sore around mile 12. At the 16 mile turnaround, finally got to run with the strong tailwind, but my legs couldn't go any faster. HR was spiking into the 200's. I suppose I was overheating? walked a couple waterstops, and did a lot of walking after mile 19. Took powerbar gel with 11x caffiene every 5 miles, took 9 enduralytes and 5 tylenol and 2 packs of biofreeze and 2 jolly ranchers and 5 Cliff Shot Rox (2g protein each) during race. Legs crampy after 20, locking up after 25. What would you do differently?: I suppose force myself to run much slower into the headwind? Post race
Warm down: got water, banana, orange slices, and waterice from finisher's village. Showered back in room and took ice bath. hottub when got home really loosened the legs up and was able to walk down stairs easier. What limited your ability to perform faster: 10 miles of 15 to 25 mph headwind, heat, legs drained. Event comments: Great race! Besides the tight first almost quarter mile on the boardwalk, course was perfect. Plenty of volunteers (including my wife & kids that gave me water at the mile-9 water station!).
