Swim
Comments: awful swim. goal time was sub 30. was a bit of chop to the lake and I swallowed some water, but i don't think that was the issue. don't know what was the issue What would you do differently?: swim faster Transition 1
Comments: could have gone faster, but the incentive/drive/momemtum was gone already Bike
Comments: the first 5 miles and the last 6 or so miles there was a tailwind. Beyond that it was a headwind or off the front quarter. Hills were about what i expected, just thought i would have more energy to deal with them. Goal was 20 mph. scratch that. the first half of the course i kept playing leap frog with a couple of riders. they would catch me on the down hill or slight flats, just before an uphill. Then they would slow down below where I was comfortable. So, I would power up to pass. This went on for a while and then I left them. They came by me with about 6 miles to go and left me. Because I was toast by then. no second gear, third gear or anything. Just a first gear. Never been below 19mph on this course before. What would you do differently?: ride faster. find new legs. shoot rocket fire out my rear Transition 2
Comments: coming into T2 I was contemplating giving the chip in and calling it a day. I had no energy. I was out of it. So I didn't get the feet out of the shoes or run with the bike or any of that. Finally decided to go run the course and see what I could do Run
Comments: not great, but not as bad a i envisioned in T2. focused on form the whole way which helped in the mental department. passed a lot of people, got passed by 4. didn't stop at the aid tables, which turned out to be ok Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of energy. this is a chronic thing over the past 6-8 months. still trying to figure that out Event comments: I came into the race with a blue sky goal of 2:45 and a realistic goal of sub 3:00. by the 800 meter mark of the swim I knew that 2:45 was out. By the 15 mile mark of the ride I knew 3:00 was out. I could never get out of 1st gear. effort was there (legs are telling me that). Not sure what happened with the swim. that is probably the most disappointing part of the race as much work as I have done with swimming and especially trying to get the kick more efficient. Will chalk this one up as bad and not sure why. This is one of those races that makes me want to throw the bike away, and run long only. Swimming would be the cross training.
