Pre-race routine:

Knew ahead of time the swim was cancelled, which made packing much easier.
Event warmup:

Just staying bundled up with the family, it was chilly out there!
Swim
  • 08m 29s
  • 2000 meters
  • 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Took it pretty easy on the initial run, hoping I could catch some folks on the bike and 5k after.
What would you do differently?:

I probably could have pushed this a little harder, but then again, maybe holding back a bit here helped me later.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

What a disaster. I wore running gloves and fumbled around forever trying to get my helmet clipped. Finally tore the gloves off and got finished up.
What would you do differently?:

Should have realized that it's much harder to get a helmet clipped with gloves on!
Bike
  • 33m 37s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 22.31 mile/hr
Comments:

I saw driving in that morning that there were some rollers on the course, but nothing remotely serious. Really tried to press throughout since it was a short course. I did get passed twice, but probably passed 10 or so people.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, with dryer conditions I might have taken some of the corners a little quicker.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

That's more like it!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 21m 55s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow this run felt great! I was bummed right at the start that I was passed, but I ended up staying on his heels for the whole run, and we passed a couple guys. Very flat course, and I was focused enough on staying with my rabbit that I didn't really pay attention to my Garmin for pace. We were both passed by a guy who was FLYING with about a half mile left, turns out he was part of a relay. Then with about 200M left I saw someone catching me, turned it on a bit to keep my position at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked around a bit, had a donut and then packed up to go.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Other than the bad T1, I was very happy with my performance. I also heard that a couple of the competitors ahead of us were sent the wrong way on the bike and on the 5k, which shortened the route for them. I don't think it would have made a difference in my placing though. T1 might have cost me 6th, but what are you gonna do?

Event comments:

Fun little race. Not super organized, but nothing that really had an impact on my day. Very happy with the results too!
