Total Time = 1h 29m 17s
Overall Rank = 94/269
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Walgreen protein drink, some water. Had everything packed the night before so easy up and out.
Event warmup:

Jogged barefoot to main parking lot, no water anywhere, not enough portacans. Running in place with light stretching at rack.

Swim
  • 11m 6s
  • 450 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

I mainly side stroked but can't blame it on starting around other ppl. I only had one guy that seemed to be attracted to me. Felt like arms were dead, may want to not swim the week before an event.

What would you do differently?:

More endurance swimming and OW with ppl.

Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Spent a lot of time catching my breath, drying off and moving out.
What would you do differently?:

Hury up?

Bike
  • 43m 43s
  • 14.66 miles
  • 20.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Got passed by several groups of road riders, nemesis was following the second group. Jumped on it to chase them down, was able to hang for a while but eventually got dropped. Ken lost them not long after that but I couldn't catch him, hamstrings were getting tight. Passed a bunch on the way, mostly heavies and mtb'ers, but some that should have been racing. Saw a few flat ties.

What would you do differently?:

Make sure to let ppl know I was passing so they would stay to the right!
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Not sure why it took so long, hurry up next time.
Run
  • 28m 34s
  • 3.04 miles
  • 09m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Lost breath right at the start again (gasping for air) so walked about 40-50 feet. After that got on pace and no other problems. Passed quite a few (10+) and only got passed by a couple of faster (younger) ppl that must have been in the newbie wave.

Turned it on at the finish so looked like I was 6 min pace coming in! Still had a good pace at 9:40, need to improve if I want a podium spot.
What would you do differently?:

Run more = run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it off, then got some beer :)

Disappointed when I got my time but after reviewing my Garmin the race was longer than advertised (swim & bike). Advertised as 400/12/3, actual was 450/15/3. I was expecting 1:15-1:20.

Good effort for my 1st triathlon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not keeping my head down and digging on swim, need to work on speed on the run, bike is OK (could use some longer rides).

Event comments:

Need more volunteers and water stations (near transition/start of run). Good first effort, sure it will improve over time.
